MN declines - Zuccarello still produces and we're happy to just shop him ourselves at TDL.

Buffalo isn’t trading a top 40 pick for a bad defenseman, have the cap space so no need for retention, also could easily do that trade for him for a first (not that Van would do that at all). These are all reasons why not.

I have seen this particular trade a million times going to different teams. Pezzetta is a good pick up for the Leafs, truculence.

Nothing wrong with Pezzetta. Lots wrong with trading their first round pick

Sending Murray to the Marlies still has a cap hit of 3.5 million. Not sure that is the solution for cap strapped Leafs.

Buffalo doesn't want Myers, I wouldn't take him for free, certainly not giving up pick 39. Retention or not.

Toronto could buy murray out just as easily as montreal for 2.6 mill total cap over next 2 years. 2.6 mill is not worth a 1st round pick

Adding a 2nd pairing dman who logs 21 mins a night at 3 million for one season adds value to the dcore without being on the hook for additional cap years. Myers is a perfect stay at home dman for Powers.
Have cap space next season for Krebs, Dahlin and Power.

Myers costs a 1st round pick to dump but can be flipped for a 2nd and a roster player???

3 million dollars in cap space is not worth an early 1st, a 2nd, and a roster player.

If myers at 3 mill was worth a 2nd and a prospect, then myers at 6 mill wouldn't cost anything to dump.

you are eating 3 mill in cap space and apparently somehow that gets you a similar return that the blackhawks got for Alex Debrincat

Leafs can't afford to buy out Murray and try to compete one last time with the core.

Apparently 3 million dollars and ylonen is worth 14 and 21
3 million dollars is worth 11 39 and jost
and 2.6 million is worth a 1st.

Delusional. 5 firsts of value for 8.6 million of cap and some scrubs

600k in cap hit this year is not backbreaking. 2 mill next year is not backbreaking. Not close to being worth a 1st to dump.

Two separate deals for Myers. The first one is a cap dump for cap strapped Vancouver. The second is a deal with Buffalo for a second-round pick for 3mil retention. A healthy Monahan at the deadline would have yielded the same kind of return at the trade dealine.

Saw this same crap with Monahan. You aren't getting paid to take a player, then flip that player for such a high pick.

3 million in retention does not come CLOSE to changing value from costing pick 11 to dump, and getting a 2nd and a roster player back.

That's an alex debrincat return for 3 mill in cap space (which buffalo doesn't need).
Vancouver in this situation would rather trade Myers half retained for assets to buffalo
and buffalo in this situation (assuming they wanted myers at all, which they don't) would rather take Myers along with assets.

Neither team has any reason to do this besides helping Montreal. Being a cap middle man for a trade does NOT net you a Debrincat return. it nets you a mid round pick.

My point is if the point above is true (it’s not) why would Buffalo need Montreal to broker it? They have more space than Montreal does. Keep their second, gain a first, pay an extra 3M for one year of Myers. Like it doesn’t make any sense at all why either team would do this, other than to help Montreal for no reason. Also Myers is bad.

Nope. Teams are actually obligated to pay montreal Alex Debrincat/Bo Horvat level returns for retaining 3mill of cap space (and 500k of actual money if the trade is made post bonus payout)

It's possible Myers doesn't go to Buffalo. Regardless, 3 million retention for 2nd pairing dman nets a 2nd pick. Dumping 6 million in cap should get a first.
