Yegor likely signs 1-year close to QO ($2.05m) for 2023-24 and then becomes RFA for last time in summer 2024. So this would be his rights sent to VAN. Boeser would be in final year.

Think VAN would only move Boeser for low-ish value if it saves them cap. With them retaining half of the salary, the savings are minimal. They'd prolly be better off just keeping him.

It saves them $3.325m. And they could use that money towards signing Yegor to be their new 3C.

Exactly, so it doesnt save VAN any money. How much does it cost to sign Yegor? ~3m? So VAN is paying the same money now for a downgraded player.

It saves them whatever is left after Sharangovich signing and/or trade, which is probably counted in hundreds of thousands if even that - not millions. That's marginal in terms of savings, unless they trade Sharangovich for a pick, which is ultimately pointless cuz trading half-retained Boeser for a pick is likely going to get them more value in itself.

Alright, no worries. Maybe less retention and more futures oriented return. Get ‘em some meaningful savings.

If you take the contract out of the equation for a second, Brock is worth a late 1st round pick (55pts in a bad year isn't bad at all). Adding in the contract, it downgrades the value but not to the level of a 3rd line center. If VAN retains on Brock then the value is back to a late 1st round pick. If VAN retain HALF then the value is higher than a late 1st. Thats how I see it anyways.

We got no 1sts to give. Keep in mind this is for 2024-25 season, so would be pending UFA.

I understand, Im not necessarily saying the NJD is a fit but just that that's his value as I see it.

If Brock boeser was making the league minimum he still wouldn't be worth a 1st round pick. He has never topped 60 points and has not scored more than 26 goals since his rookie season. Boeser might be worth a 2nd at the trade deadline if he wasn't ridiculously overpaid. At the current rate he's a cap dump. And that's not coming from me; it's coming from your own beat writers.

Oof thats a hard disagree, my man. I'll take a 26 year old ~55 point scorer at league minimum for a 1st rounder all day, everyday.

Before we got Meier, I had hoped Boeser was an option. I think he fits a need for us (can finish in tight) that would compliment the rest of our top-6. Plus, he has had a rough year, so maybe a new team can give him what he needs to get going again.

Maybe it’s a lesser priced player, plus a pick. What are VAN biggest needs for young players?

How is it not? You said "If Brock boeser was making the league minimum he still wouldn't be worth a 1st round pick." Im saying I'd pay a 1st round pick for a 26 year-old ~55 point scorer. Therefore, its a "hard disagree, my man."

I think you'd be crazy not to pay that price for that kind of player actually.
