Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2023
Published: Jun. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
DET
  1. Vladar, Daniel
Additional Details:
Nitpicking topic, but why are Wings fans so keen on this trade? Nedeljkovic was a Calder Trophy finalist with a .932sv% - we got him for a 3rd. "We need a back up goalie" "Ned is bad" - Trades for Vladar who had exactly the same SV% as Ned Lol? Vladar had better defense in front of him as well. We are just wasting a valuable Draft pick here IMO. There are like 15 goalies in Free agency with similar or better stats than Vladar.

Can't speak for Detroit fans but as a Flames fan; Vladar is younger, his sv% is incredibly skewed by Flames shot suppression so generally the ones they get passed him are pretty high quality goals, he's signed for dirt cheap for 2 more years, he nearly stole the starting job from a recent Vezina finalist (albeit Markstrom was not playing at a Vezina level), he is absolutely capable of being a 1A/1B goalie, and he has an S tier nickname. Understand that if Calgary didn't need to move cap out to be compliant, as well as have the best goalie prospect in the league who is NHL ready now they would not consider moving Vladar.

As for Ned, that was just an unexpected failed experiment IMO. I look at Colorado and how well Georgiev did there after being an absolute train wreck the year before. I look at how Adin Hill as done in Vegas this year and specifically in these playoffs too. Ned was given the reins and faceplanted, kind of like Petersen in LA. IMO he probably just needs a change of scenery.

I would include that the Wings getting Ned for a 3rd it was a steal because the Canes were worried he'd go to arbitration and walk after the next season.

Some might be fine with Vladar, but to me, there is zero value in trading for a 2nd (maybe 3rd) tier goalie... there are at least 5 equal or better options available in FA...

Because they don't understand the vale of the picks (or the value of most players, for that matter)...that's it.
