A legit game changer

Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2023

Description
This deal not only helps the Jets, but sets up the Wings to attack a weakened Atlantic division. Boston in cap hell with no centers and lots of UFAs, Toronto is in typical offseason meltdown, Florida while doing amazing right now, likely will regress (likely), Ottawa is more focused on the sale of the team then the team itself, Montreal is still rebuilding and Buffalo has no goaltending. The time is now to make a move Wings

This is the type of deal the jets would likely be interested in. Not 100% futures. Built around players who are nhl ready but need a change of scenery and have a chip on their shoulder. Plus the 9th OA pick is nice to have.

I could see the jets seriously considering a deal like this. Ultimately feel like they’d try to pry 1-2 quality pieces out of DET instead of 5-6 solid pieces.

I don't hate it, but Scheif is already 30.

Connor in there and it's an easy yes.

Connor is likely the only untouchable on the Jets. Likely the next to wear the C.

Sure, but I don't think Scheif and Helly are worth 9OA in a fantastic draft this year and what could possibly be a very high pick in '24 if Berg and Krejci don't come back.

Ras is also developing into a really nice, big C. Zadina and Fabbri are whatever.

From WPG... this is decent. The 9th overall pick in this draft is everything for a Jets team that needs to rebuild. The 1st in 2024 from BOS will not be a great pick, but could end up being a 3rd or 4th liner in the NHL.

The players from DET are players they don't want, so not sure how useful they would be for WPG, but they fill the roster.

"IF" you said... the 9th and 17th pick in this draft, WPG would be ALL OVER IT and even throw in another asset like a 2nd or 3rd pairing D that would help DET even more, like Pionk, Demelo, Schmidt or Dillon.

Totally fair, you could switch around the picks, I believe this deal is bit of an overpay however I think this deal would imminently push the Wings into a playoff spot. If it was a protected 1st in 2024, it would work better but I don't think the 20th OA or whatever the Isle have do it for the Jets.

Yep agreed. I love that Scheif is a RH, that would make me somewhat happy with the deal, but will he be that good of a C after 3 years?

Feel like the Wings are better off drafting and waiting, especially with Cossa looking good. It is proven time and time again that you don't need an expensive goalie to make it to or win a Cup.

Ah yes this is awful for Detroit in the long term.
Both of these guys are in their 30s. Schiefele is bound to start recessing within the next two years. Doesn't help he's a locker room taint.

I'd be astonished if we aren't fighting for WC2. With this team.

I very much disagree about Detroit, they need to collect as much young, high end talent they can, acquiring a couple 31 year olds and signing them to longer term extensions is the exact opposite of what they should do, they're still a considerable way from being relevant.

I agree, Detroit is further from the playoffs than they were last season.

Want to know what would really help this team? Getting rid of our younger assets for two rentals in their 30s! That means we only have holes at LW1, LW2, R2, RD2, and RD3!
