Taking useful dumps

Created by: Anus_McLeod
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A variation on stuff I have done in the past (mainly just different trade compensation).

Basically the Avs get Granlund, Mantha, and Foote for pretty much nothing (the end result for all intents and purposes is they exchange the Colorado 2025 3rd for the Washington 2025 4th).

Next year gets really tough if Landeskog comes back, but there are levers to pull if needed. And I hate to say it, but I don't think the team can bank on him returning at this point.

Pens would be happy with that.

If you want 50% retained you gotta give more than a 2nd for him and a 4th

Thanks, I think so too. It's a reasonable price to correct a mistake imo. Colorado would have to hope they don't end up in the same boat, but I think there's a reasonably decent chance Granlund bounces back.

Maybe, but keep in mind that a third team would take some or all of the retention. Basically the Caps gain a little bit on the asset side but dump most or all of the salary.

yeah this rules. Granlund is on the 2nd line for me, but that's ticky tacky. and tbh there are plenty of other options that aren't mantha on the wing if that doesn't work, either.

I thought about putting Granlund at 2C, but I like the defensive prowess that line has with Toews. With his defensive ability and 60ish percent rate at the dot, this line would be a huge pain in the arse for the oppositions best players.

Glad you like the team though. I thought this was a good one as well.

Would be curious if a 3rd party would retain on Granlund for a 4th in '24 or '25. Think Newhook, Meyers, and Cogs may all get a little more.

In what world are the Penguins doing this? Granlund has a cheap buyout price. Why would we give up a lottery pick in the best draft we’ve had in years especially when we have no good prospects? None of it makes sense whatsoever.

They are the furthest from it. They laugh and hang up.

This makes no sense for the Penguins to do. Ron Hextall isn’t our GM anymore. Granlund is a cheap buyout. But yeah it makes a lot of sense to give up a lottery pick to trade him. For sure.

A lottery pick? It's a second rounder for a team that has every expectation of being in the playoffs. Unless they are planning on trading Crosby and Malkin, I don't know how you assume this is some valuable lottery pick. Put conditions on it if needed though I guess.

In terms of the buyout number, it's not terrible. But I think it's preferable to lose a second than to pay Granlund not to play for the next four year, even if it's not a huge figure.

I promise you that it was always a 2nd. I didn't edit it.

I apologize for going off like I did, I see way too many ACGM teams taking our first to “dump” granlund

I'd be happy enough with most of that bar the obvious broken 2C.

Yeah yeah yeah wink

I really like this one though. And all for the cost of basically nothing. It's a deep team.

Tbf though it's hard to see who else you could really add that could do a job at 2C for that money and at least we aren't giving up the assets we would have at the TDL last year for him.
