Necas is a good piece but still worse than Nylander, and I don’t see Skjei and Drury moving the needle with Brodie included

Can’t see PLD signing for more than 3 years - would this scare off
The Canes? I would like it to keep flexibility in the cap.

Brodie is a cap dump candidate per elliotte friedman soooo.... Skjei easily becomes the leafs best defender on the back end, necas top 6 at 3 mil, drury bottom 6 at 925k allows the leafs to go out and have more balance to their top 9

If you can get PLD for 3, you easily take that. Canes cup window is strongest this year so do whatever you can

Scoring goals isn’t Brodie’s job. I would argue he’s a top-3 defensive D in the league there’s no one on the Leafs that can replace that if we traded him

varlamov is the only realistic thing here.

toronto and the canes are good partners. Canes are trying to add to their roster (not subtract) and Toronto is trying to win too, and not move their big 4.

we wont sign Killorn or Gust to those deals.

PLD goes to a big market team.

Brodie as a cap dump is one of the dumbest things this site has ever come up with. I just checked Friedman’s twitter and there’s not a single tweet about Brodie as a cap dump either. Skjei is a worse defender than Brodie, the Leafs with Brodie have been a good defensive team, it’s not something to sacrifice. If you believed he was a cap dump you wouldn’t be bringing him into your team lets be honest.
Necas is a good returning piece, I agree. Drury would be playing for the Marlies, respectfully

TopDownHockey’s model has him ranked in the 100th percentile EV defence and 99th percentile PK

We already have one of the best shutdown defensemen in the league in Jaccob Slavin... and Slavin is younger... He'd probably be a 2nd pairing defenseman

Interesting idea but I think the leafs would push hard for Pesce package instead

The question isn't "better" or "worse" because we're not talking about one season. The question is one of Value.

Check recent playoff stats - Pesce / Skej were filled in. Both underwater in terms of xg%; Brodie had way better numbers particularly in xga. He is a much much better defender which is what we need. Absolutely no way Skej becomes our best defenseman 😂; funny how fans start to believer their own hype / facts not withstanding

I mean that isn't somebody we'd trade for... especially giving up a very good offensive defensemen

The Leafs get one season of Necas at 3M and then have to pay him probably a similar sized contract to Nylander. Nylander is the better player and he’s made for the Toronto market. He’s been the only guy to continually show up in the playoffs. I’d rather extend Nylander this summer than trade him for a worse player along with Brodie for a worse defencemen and an AHL plug. The cap space savings are only for a single season

i do love when fans turn heel on players when its time to trade him. He gets dogged through the playoffs by fans for sucking at defense and getting torched by florida but now we use stats to prove he is worth a lot in a trade.

good times.
