I don’t see why the leafs dump Robertson at this point, may as well see if he can stay healthy and contribute. 1st is too steep for Laughton imo; we can get similar player via FA

You might be able to get a similar quality player to Laughton, but the term and AAV are what make him more attractive. Guys like Barbashev, Killorn, Compher, Colton are all going to get 5+ years on a deal and probably have a higher AAV.

I’m trying to understand how / why you regard Laughton so highly. He is nowhere near the players you mention; they all out produce him by a wide margin, except barbashev who is having a great playoffs and Colton who is an RFA. I’ll believe it when I see it, but there is no chance I would offer a 1st for Laughton and I hope my Leafs don’t - he’s a 3rd/4th C that scores 10-20 goals, the exact definition of ‘nothing special’.

Think thats the thing that keeps getting lost here on these Laughton trades. I don't think anyone actually thinks Laughton as a player is worth a 1st, at least I hope not, but we've seen this time and time again with players like Foligno and Jeannot in the past. Guys like Laughton tend to get overpaid for by teams looking for good, gritty bottom 6 depth for the playoffs (Obviously Jeannot's price is a little different, but still). That's just the truth, and if you deny that then you're lying to yourself. Right now, its reported teams have offered first round picks and maybe even more but Danny is holding out on it.

Also, and I've said this in other threads about Laughton, I totally get where you're coming from. If I was a fan of the Leafs or any other team rumored to be interested I would absolutely hate the thought of us giving up a 1st and more for Laughton. But, thats just what his rumored value is so I guess we have to go along with it for now.

CBJ may do that but I'd think you may be sending back a late draft pick too. maybe a 5th rounder in this years draft

Thanks for the comments, well said and I mostly agree … the only push back. I personally have never considered Laughton to be at the calibre of players you & others referenced (Foligno, Jeannot, Killorn, Compher) - maybe I’m wrong but he’s been in the league a long time and I’ve never really taken notice of him. I can also see gms overpaying at the TDL but not in the summer when there are FA options available

From my point of view I agree with everything @Farabee said. Is Laughton worth a 1st value wise? No definitely not. But GMs create their own market that don’t make sense sometimes lol. I try to take opinion out of everything I say on here because when everyone says their opinions nothing ever is productive. I try to stick to the facts and the leaked information. I wouldn’t be happy if my team used a first on Laughton but someone eventually will. And after going through Chuck Fletcher’s regime flyers fans have gotten used to trades happening they don’t like because Fletcher lost every single trade he ever made here lol so I think flyers fans are numb to bad trades whereas other fans are used to there GM winning trades and we are hoping Danny is that GM now
