Not a sub 6' winger, that's for damn sure. If we get Smith, wonderful. I think Rein is a stretch at 5 but I understand the positional requirement. Leonard would be a wonderful pick, finish our top line with a RW of size and stature. Other than that (or some catastrophic drafting by the 4 teams ahead of us) I would trade that pick with one of STL, DET, WSH and get an additional asset or two. We're a team of short dudes, KH would be tone-deaf if he drafted another one (MB did that enough for all of us).

Did I hear 5OA+37OA for 9OA+17OA?

I do believe you did hear that, wind must've carried it over your way.

being good at hockey and being tall are different things. yes hockey is a physical sport and yes there are some advantages to being bigger in certain scenarios but if youre better than the other guys on the ice its irrelevant how big you are. the big guys can play in the bottom six. Zach Benson will be an elite NHLer regardless of his size & imo hes the best option at fifth overall.

My man it's one thing being a short player, it's another thing when every player on your team is short. You'd get clobbered come playoff time by simply being thrown around by bigger bodies.
You gotta have a physical presence, and one player (Slafkovsky) is not enough when like 5 of your top players are all sub 6'.

i mourn the loss of the cap space that Steve Yzerman spent on big ben

Definitely my least favorite move Stevie has made so far. If it stays the worst one he makes then I can live with it though. Like others have said, it's just longer and more expensive than it needs to be, but it's not like he isn't an NHL level defenseman

i think that drafting a defeceman that high in such a stacked forward draft (top ten at least) is nuts personally. drafting by positional need is the worst thing a team can do in the first round. Michkov is the 2nd or 3rd best player available in the whole draft, if i earnestly thought hughes would pick him i would've put him there instead but i just don't see it happening. for me benson's style of play is more appealing than smith's regardless of size, especially considering that the difference is only two inches. i know two inches is huge sometimes but i dont think its gonna stop zach benson any time soon. if they draft reinbacher im going to become a vegas fan.

This is clearly just a troll, Dvorak and Savard have more value than a 2nd and 4th and Anderson has way more value than Mantha. Clearly someone p***ed in this user's cornflakes today.

how does anderson have "way more" value than mantha? genuinely curious. mantha has 1 bad year left while anderson has 4,

So Boston, who is in a tough cap spot is going to add $5.7 million in cap for a guy who is producing like a 3rd liner.

Benson is 5'10 w no high end speed, the rest is def elite but that flaw is what holds him back, crucial flaw to have, and if we draft him there's gon be like 5 sub 6ft players in top 9. Caufield, Farrell, RHP, Gally, Benson lmao
if they dont want Michkov at 5, Leonard would be my pick, pretty much 6ft and 190, like 5'11.75 and 185 atm. Michkov would be much better than Caufield its not close tbh, Caufield could en up a ppg player hitting 40 and maybe one or two 50 season while not having much defense due to his size. Michkov is 5'10 165? 3 years to develop physically is more than enough. if Smith is there at 5 he's my pick though.

Doesn’t really hurt us given the timeline. I don’t like Chiarot but it’s fine.

Wings decline but only because the value is off and the player isn’t useful.
