Description

If the isles maintain the status quo this offseason they will be a fringe playoff team that is a probable first round exit. The direction of this team became clear when Raty and a 1st (and Beauvillier) were traded for Bo Horvat despite the team nose-diving: they are not rebuilding/re-tooling. This ACGM aims to follow this line of thinking while shaking up some of the old-guard.

1. Trade for DeBrincat - The isles still need a goal-scorer, and eventually they’ll get one whose production doesn’t dry up as soon as they come to Long Island, right? Right!?

2. Re-sign Engvall and Parise - Engvall, Nelly, and Palms were the Isles’ best line down the stretch last season. No-brainer to reunite them. Parise slots in nicely on a rebuilt fourth line. Speaking of which…

3. Get rid of the identity line - Cizikas’s contract locks him in as 4C, but clutterbuck is cooked and Martin frankly isn’t an everyday player anymore. He can platoon with Parise when the Isles want a bit more size/physicality in a game.

4. Re-build the 3rd line - Since DeBrincat would be an Islander and the 2nd line is set in stone, Lee slots in as the 3LW. I love Pager, he kills penalties, is solid defensively, solid in the playoffs, and a 0.5 PPG player, but he is overpaid by about $1 million and that is a lot of money for the Islanders. Bjugstad is a cheap replacement. Hopefully Wahlstrom can take a big step forward this year.

I love this forward group, I think the defensive lines are solid, and Sorokin is an all-world goalie. If this team can’t get it done, no Islanders team can.

Seen this trade a couple times. Maybe Isles add a little? I like a 3rd pair of Aho-Spence, although a lot of isles fans don’t like Aho he has solid defensive numbers and is a good skater. Spence profiles as an offensive-defenseman and is a good skater too

Value good here? Avs need centers and Isles could use a cheap backup. Have Avs adding a bit because Pager would provide a lot more value for them than Francouz would, but he is more expensive

Isles aren’t trading Pageau for scraps, and anyone who thinks they would is building their trade proposals on a false premise.

What do you view as a fair/possible trade for him given the Isles cap/prospect/pick situation? I view a Cat trade as a must if the Isles want to position themselves as a contender

I wonder if Dorion would want Pageau and move Pinto in the top 6 as a winger. Pageau, Wahlstrom , 2024 1st maybe

DeBrincat would most likely come down to who can offer the best package and it seems like a lot of team could beat the islanders offer

That 3rd line seems like it would be terrible defensively and get caved it

I could see the Kings doing this next summer when Clarke is NHL ready. In the meantime, they need Spence for 3RD now that Sean Walker is gone.

Avs keep Frankie and the pick and re-sign the younger, higher scoring JTC who knows the organisation to the same amount as JGP to be their tweener 2/3C.

Don’t the Avs need another center anyway? They never replaced Kadri as far as I know

There are better targets than JGP if they're going after another C. JGP is just JTC. Doesn't make sense to have two of them. They'll either look for a genuine 2C or target a decent wing to give Newhook a shot with two good wingers imo. The Avs won't want to pay JTC that kind of money so it makes zero sense for them to trade for an older version for it.
