Getting deeper

Description
Granlund trade from @gpmack95. Personally I'd like getting him at only $2.5M for two years quite a bit.

Otherwise, Colorado gets deeper here without giving up any of their important futures or their defensemen. They also have cap flexibility with the Mantha and J. Toews deals coming off the books after the year, as well as Manson's trade protection opening up. This allows them to fit Landeskog back in if he can get right. And if he can't, they can try to keep one or all of the aforementioned players.

I don’t see why Pittsburgh does that. 5 mil for actually being able to use Granlund is better than 2.5 mil for someone else to use him IMO.

Pens are not retaining salary. A buyout would be a way better option.

I actually agree with you on that, but there seems to be other opinions regarding just how much they want to get rid of him and his salary. I rolled with someone else's trade here.

Fwiw, I proposed Granlund and a 2nd to Colorado for a late pick or FC in a different acgm. That makes more sense to me from the Pens standpoint, as they get rid of his entire salary.

Partially agree. I think they may be willing to retain some salary (1M-1.5M probably) but not a full half. I could still make that work by asking for more retention on Mantha or paying Toews a bit less.

Yeah. I mean he did have a down season last year but I think people are really overreacting to him. Saying he’s complete trash and they just want him gone. There are worse options you could have lol. People view him as a cap dump for whatever reason.

Meh. Foote's expendable, but I don't really want Malgin or Beaucage either.

He was pretty bad in Pittsburgh. The question in my mind is whether it is a poor fit or if he needs time to adjust. If they feel like it's more the former, then 4-5M or so in extra cap space could be pretty big for them as they try to fill other needs. But I could also see them just holding into him and hoping it clicks. Who knows.

Understandable. It's not great for Nashville, but I do think Malgin could help a bit and that Beaucage has some value. I could go with the 3rd rounder instead of this package if it works better. I think Foote would be a nice fit on the Avs. High risk but worth a shot.

Yeah, I'd much rather have the 3rd. I don't see a lot of NHL upside to Beaucage, and NSH already has a lot of promising young RWs needing spots soon. I don't see Malgin as a need either - NSH has enough bottom six options.
