Description
Overall thoughts after putting this mess together:

Army has some work to do. I think in order to get rid of contracts on the defense, he will need to take some bad contracts back in return. The hope is to add draft picks to cut the duration of the contracts down but the money is relatively the same for next season.
Perunovich needs a shot to prove himself.
Suter could be an underrated signing with potential to move up the lineup. Just not sure on what kind of contract he will get. The athletic player card has him as a 3mil player but some term could help bring it down... maybe. But Suter adds more experience to let Alexandrov play more meaningful minutes in the minors. Same with Bolduc, as giving him more minutes in the minors would be better than 10-12 a night with the big club. If Suter isn't signed, no big deal. Just slot Alexandrov back in

Keep Scandella instead of buying out just in case of any injuries on the back end. Same with Bortz.

Saw on the athletic a mock trade between Detroit and Montreal (5 and 31 for 9 and 17). Could this value be similar? Perhaps. May need to add a later pick for the Blues to make it happen

Could most of these trades happen? More than likely not, but it's worth a shot. This team could be competitive next year even with the exact same team, just need a rebound from a few players (looking at you blue line and Binner).

Closing thoughts: if the Blues suck again next year, they have plenty of pieces on one year contracts they can send out as rentals with salary retention to get more pieces back to help accelerate the retool/rebuild. That was the thought of bringing in Yama at least. A one year prove it type of deal to see what he truly is. If he doesn't pan out, no QO and let him walk. Army will have some cap room to take him in as long as he can shed one or two d-man contracts

Would love to keep all three first round picks and replenish the prospect pool with high end talent, but Army has already stated he is looking to move them if the players or situation makes sense.

Also Mokumboi, you'll probably hate this entire concept but I think it's either something like this or keeping essentially the same team as last year. Hope this at least gets a little chuckle out of you

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Broberg, Philip
  2. Yamamoto, Kailer
Additional Details:
Would rather have 1 year at 4 mil with the potential of Yama turning it around. Risk worth taking. Just not sure on the overall value here. At least this gets rid of a NTC (assuming Leddy waives)
EDM
  1. Leddy, Nick
  2. 2023 1st round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Need to be in a win now mode and think currently Leddy helps that more than Broberg. Also offloads Yama without having to buy out AND get a 1st rounder this year
2.
STL
  1. Granlund, Mikael
  2. Pickering, Owen
Additional Details:
Former 1st rounder and a cap dump in Granlund. Probably won't work but I've seen a few posts swapping Granlund and Krug. Not sure how else to make it work.
PIT
  1. Krug, Torey
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Offloads Granlund and gets another puck mover on the back end as well as a first round pick. Is it enough for them to take on Krug? Probably not but it could be close
3.
STL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Taking one of: Michkov, Smith, or Carlsson, whoever is available
MTL
  1. Neighbours, Jake
  2. 2023 1st round pick (STL)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
MON adds a few more picks and a younger piece to play as a third line winger with grit

The Habs refuse that trade easily! Even more if you want us to add some picks and a young player. Why would we drop down five spots in exchange for a second rounder and a b tier prospect? With the 5OA pick, we have the chance to pick either Benson, Leonard, Michkov or Smith (if SJS doesn't pick him) who are all elite talents. With the 10OA, the options are WAY more limited. If the blues want that trade, they should give way more.

I could see something like that Krug/Granlund trade happening. I think it makes sense, but it would have to be contingent on what happens to Petry.

For MTL I got one deal for you :
5th + prospect vs 10th + Snuggerud
The deal above doesn't cut it

I don't know enough about that pittsburgh situation to comment on that.
but, I think St Louis is giving up too much for Broberg (Yama is arguably not an NHL player, he's not skilled enough for top6 and not gritty enough for bottom 6)

I think Mtl would love the idea of trading down to the 7-10 range to be honest, but I think they'd look for a RD prospect, not a middle6 forward.
St Louis doesnt seem to have a solid RD prospect... frown
From a fan's perspective, MTL has enough prospects and picks, we need more high-end skill in the prospect line

EDM easily refuses. The point of moving/buying out Yamo is to open cap space; not to add an extra 1mil for multiple years at a position the team doesn't need. You'd have to add a bunch to make that make sense.

On top of that, you're offering the 29th(?) pick for Broberg which in no way helps the team now.

I think you're overrating what St. Louis is offering each of these teams or not considering the needs of the other teams:

-Edmonton has Nurse and Ekholm as left shot D, what they really need is a better partner for Nurse than Ceci. This deal prevents them from doing that and ties them to Leddy's contract for longer term. Maybe they try something like Nurse-Ekholm, Leddy-Bouchard, but that doesn't seem complementary at all.

-Pittsburgh is trying to compete while Crosby et al are competing at a high level. This deal reduces their cap flexibility and sets the timetable back in futures. Its the only somewhat realistic deal since Pittsburgh can pivot from the deal with the assets they get, but as straight trade its not ideal. I don't see why St. Louis would do this either.

-Montreal has a very deep prospect pool and is starting to graduate guys that will play in the middle/bottom 6. They need elite talent. Neighbours has value, but Montreal almost definitely prefers just playing RHP, Farrell and Slafkovsky instead. Neighbours and a 2nd is not going to come close to convincing Montreal to move from 5 to 10.

How about 10 for 31, Kidney, and a 3rd? MTL laughs pretty good at that

What is the deal with Krug and wanting to get rid of him? is it just his contract? or is there more
