I know half the blues fans on here are going to hate this because they clearly view the current roster differently than me. I think we need to bite the bullet, restock, and Re-access in like 3-4 years. Ride out these LD contracts that would be too expensive to move till they are easier to move while getting some valuable picks and solid prospects that can step in sooner than the picks would. Don’t have them on here but could also flip all UFA’s at the deadline for best assets we can as well as open spots to get Dean, Bolduc, ect some reps. In the show.
Move #1: move Buch. He’s the best player on our team and it’s tough to let him go but we can get a great return for him. Canes need to get over the hump and he would definitely help. He’s gonna be 30 by the time his contract is up and due for a raise. I don’t think his timeline fits so we go out and get a solid RD prospect which we so desperately need. A first, and an early second next year. We may be able to get more for him considering his contract and skill but it’s not a terrible return. A realistic one I’d say.
Move #2: flip that 30th pick and the cap space we just got from moving buch for a temporary 3 C whose wayyyy overpaid. The penguins need to go for it with their core 1 last time and Granlund has to go. We take their valuable 14OA and a third and they still get to pick in the first round! It’s a win for everybody.
Move#3: Vrana and Kap looked like much better players in our system and we’re happy to help. Why not get an asset out of Mantha and try to do the same thing. It’s a 1 year contract so no harm in trying plus we add the 40th OA pick in this years draft. If he looks better, pretty easy to retain and flip for another asset at the deadline. This gives us assets and opens space to start getting some prospects some time in the league.
Move #4: This one is tough. Parayko is a solid defender at a fair price for now. He’s big, can move the pick and defend well, and has playoff experience. The contract won’t look great in 5 years but the oilers need to win now. We take Ceci and Yamamoto off their books. We also retain on Kap to give them a solid middle 6 winger at a great price for the year. We take Broberg as a LD whose young and still has potential plus closer to NHL ready to aid in the rebuild and their likely very late 24 1st. Seems fair enough to me! I know Blues fans are gonna hate this one.
Moves are made: to summarize, we got some players to hold spots for a year or 2. We sent out Buchnevich, Kapenen at %50, and Parayko for the futures of Morrow, Broberg, 23’ 14th OA, 23’ 40th OA, 23’ 90th OA, late 24’ 1st, early 24’ 2nd, and a 25’ 3rd.
Now let’s talk this draft.
10th: a) Michkov, Reinbacher b) Danielson, Dvorsky, Willander, Moore
-a= would absolutely love but probably gone
14th: Danielson, Simashev, Willander, Moore, Benson
25th: Simashev, Bonk, Ritchie, But, Musty, Molendyk
29th: Bonk, But, Edstrom, Molendyk
40th: Lindstein, Strbak, Strammel, Hrabal
I personally think this would be a super great start to get us back to a competitive team in 3-4 years.
I'll refrain from quibbling over the value on the EDM trade as it's likely close-ish in value, but a Parayko to EDM trade just doesn't seem plausible given the team's cap situation. They already need to move out at least one of their 2.75-3.25mil contracts just to retain their full roster and moving either 3 or all 4 of them would be entirely too much roster turnover to justify. Like Karlsson, I think a Parayko trade died when the team acquired Ekholm (at least for the next 2 years).

Yeah it’s a tough situation cause I’m under the impression the Parayko would only really waive for EDM but their cap situation is a nightmare. That was why I put Kap at half retained cause 1.6 for a middle 6 will help with the cap situation. It would be tough but I do think EDM is cup or bust and that move would definitely help.

I really don't think it would due to impact it would have on the rest of the roster. Parayko to EDM may be possible in the future after the cap rises but adding more than 1.8mil in cap before having signed any of the RFAs makes it a non-starter right now.
what would you want from Washington if the base of a Caps-Blues trade was Buch and Mantha?
#8 would be the starter. Not really sure where you’d go from there. Maybe Buch for Mantha, #8, and #40 and a Bish prospect? Maybe that’s too much but buch is a great player on a great deal.

Yeah I get where you’re coming from forsure. What you guys need to do is get rid of Cambell some how and then everything would be just fine.
I think all of these trades are really well thought out.
Maybe the Mantha one doesn't make as much sense bc of ability to buy out but I really like the thought of getting Mantha
I would want to give you a side eye, walk out and never speak again.
obviously we would add a lot more, hence why I was asking what the Blues would want in addition. The base of the trade is Buch and Mantha so the cap works. Unless you're saying you would just say no altogether if Mantha is included, to which I would reply "yea that checks out" lol

I would say no to Mantha just talking about him, correct. To take Mantha AND give up Buch... well, the Caps really ain't got enough to add for all that. Of course, #8 would be nice, but there's no prospects terribly interesting from the Blues perspective. You'd have to give up #8 and take Leddy back (only because Krug presumably would not waive), and we're still a ways off.
