    Less quantity more quality needed

You need to include at least one piece among :

    - DET 1st
    - NYI 1st
    - Berggren

Then choose among other pieces to complete :

    - Kubalik
    - Rasmussen
    - 2nd round picks

That's about it. Nothing else interesting (of course, not mentioning the 5 assets Detroit should not trade)

Sad thing is, you're not going to get more for him than you paid...... I feel the NYI 1st, Kubs and maybe a 4th is the most...... With the NYI pick selection, the prospect in that range is similar to the pick the Hawks received last draft.

NYI 1st + Kubalik + 2nd or 3rd would not be more than they paid, but it would be sufficient.

Disagree that the 17th OA from 2023 has as much value as a 7th OA from 2022

If you look at the pick number, yes, the 7th OA is better than the 17th OA, but the players at 7-9 is not rated as high/higher than the range of 14-18 in this years draft. This years draft is DEEP, which is why a lot of teams are trying to acquire 1sts.

A package of 1st + Kubs + 2nd or 3rd is better than what the Sens gave up. Kubs by himself will fetch a 2nd rd pick at the deadline and for the Sens he can provide 20 goals on a cheap contract. Berggren and Raz are not going anywhere and the DET 9OV would be a massive overpay and silly. It would be terrible asset mgmt to provide more to the Sens.

Any source on this because what I have heard is that the top-5 is vastly better this year than many of the past drafts but the rest after that is pretty "standard"

Even if there was a big difference of talent between 2 drafts, it would take a major DUD vs an incredible draft to have a 7th OA and 17th OA as equivalents

No matter how you slice it, 7th OA > 17th OA. I would have never expected to see someone argue that to be honest.

2nd vs Kubalik (you said it yourself)
    3rd vs 3rd

It is NOT more than what they paid for him, it is a bit less.

Yeah that is confusing, but taken out of context. I said A package of 1st + Kubs + 2nd or 3rd is better than what the Sens gave up.... The 9OV, Kubs and a 3rd would be more more than what was given up.

    '23 7th OV < '23 9thOV
2nd (39th OA) < Kubs (you can use him for the season and still trade him for a 2nd)
    '24 3rd (was 2 draft years out) = '25 3rd

A fair and reasonable offer is 17th OV, Kubs and a '23 4th or '24 3rd which is slightly less than what the Sens paid. Wings have more leverage as the Sens have been told he wants to be in DET and really cannot afford him anyway when other, bigger holes, have to be plugged. If he goes to DET and more is given up, I would be very shocked.

Well, yeah I'm a bit confused because I quoted you saying "the players at 7-9 is not rated as high/higher than the range of 14-18 in this years draft"

But all good, totally agree on this :

Not only Detroit apparently. I just read that "the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Detroit Red Wings are on his preferred list of teams where he’d sign a long-term extension"
