I'm trying to be realistic, but also have fun with it. I think every move makes sense on both sides, but I could be way off base. I was trying to justify why the other team would make the move and I think for both main trades it makes sense why the other team would do it.
TRADES:
Carolina(Draft Day) - Obviously I'm capitalizing on rumors from today. Buffalo moves Jokiharu, a cheaper RHD, for Pesce. Carolina also gets Kisakov and moves up from pick 71 to 45. Sabres get their 2nd pairing guy who should fit perfectly with Power. Carolina gets to shed cap space to go after Hellebuyck(Also Draft Day) and some assets to recoup what they pay for him.
New York Islanders(Morning of Draft Day 2) - NYI needs PP help(least PP goal for last year) and they play a system that can easily cover up Olofsson's defensive shortcomings. NYI is also already tight against the cap and Oliver Wahlstrom is up for a new contract. I'd expect he gets bridged for about what Olofsson makes next year, and a change of scenery could be good for him. Buffalo adds a 3rd in this year's draft that Islanders only have a 2nd round pick in the first 3 rounds in.
San Jose (Anyone with a young goalie need): CONDITIONAL ON CAMP PERFORMANCE: Traded to someone for a 3rd if he loses the camp battle to Levi so we don't lose him on waivers. If Levi struggles, UPL stays as the backup and Levi is the starter in ROC to start the year.
DRAFT: (Ran 3 sims though FC Hockey, got Barlow all 3 times, Bonk twice)
13 - Colby Barlow
38 - Oliver Bonk
SIGNINGS:
RFA: Bring back most ROC guys, the salaries could vary but thats who I'm bringing back, Murray and Pekar can walk. Jost comes back as we let girgs walk. Wahlstrom gets the other 2,375,000 we were going to pay Olofsson this year and gets bridged for two more.
UFA:
I did almost this entire thing assuming Girgs was gone, but by them time I got it to where I wanted it, the only player I needed was 4th line depth and Girgs fit the role. If these trade occur before FA, we'd know what we need, and I had to bring Zemgus back. 3 years, gets a pay bump. Obviously, Hinnestroza is gone, Davies can go, Houser has been a trooper, maybe he gets an AHL only deal again.
Big UFA 1: Freddie Anderson. In this scenario, I think Carolina is the team who pulls the trigger on Hellebuyck and then extends him to like 8m per year, so they will want to go cheap on their 2nd goalie. Anderson has played on multiple teams and been a serviceable starter. At his age I don't think anyone gives him more than 3 years, and that fits the Levi timeline, so why not pay up and solidify one of the 2 goalies for 3 years.
Big UFA 2: Scott Mayfield. Similar to Anderson, I don't see him getting a long-term deal, so overpay him a bit to secure him as your RD3 who can move up in spot duty.
Other Signings:
Dahlin 8y x 10m extension
Power 6yr x 7.25m extension, I'd prefer 8x8
Mittelstadt 3yr x 4.5m
RECAP:
Go into the season with 13 NHL forwards knowing full well that Savioe could take a spot with good enough play(I think he gets the Shane wright treatment and that we have multiple guys on the cusp in ROC in Biro, Kulich, Rousek, Rosen. I think Savioe gets the Shane Wright treatment where its 9 NHL games, and on the roster until mid November where he gets a small conditioning stint in ROC before heading out for the WJCs then back to the O for the season. On D we've shored up the top 4 and added another RD who can slot in when Samuelsson inevitably gets injured. You have Stillman, Llybushkin, Bryson for the 6/7/8 D with Clague available in ROC and I could see Johnson getting games if we're THAT injured. We have Anderson and UPL/Levi depending on camp battles, also Comrie for if injuries occur.
OTHER THOUGHTS:
Cap Space doesn't concern me much, when our next big contracts come due, Skinner is coming off the books. With the 3 Signings above, we have ~10m and the only MAJOR signing would be Krebs for next offseason.
DRAFT: I am ok with moving 13 but more of moving up or down in the draft, I think this is the last time we SHOULD be picking high for a while, and with how much talent this draft has, you need to maximize that. I'd blow up this whole thing if we could get Michkov. But being more realistic, and knowing how whacky the draft can get, if we stay at 13 my targets are: Benson, Moore, Reinbacher, Sale, and Barlow.
CONDITIONAL ON CAMP PERFORMANCE: Traded to someone for a 3rd if he loses the camp battle to Levi so we don't lose him on waivers. If Levi struggles, UPL stays as the backup and Levi is the starter in ROC to start the year.
Not enough for Pesce. Drop the Philly 3rd going back to buffalo it's still not close. My guess is Joki 1/2 retained and 13th overall is what opens the door if Pesce's extension is too rich.

The reason I was going a bit cheaper is that Carolina is opening room for Hellebuyck, I don't see Buffalo moving 13 for Pesce(I don't want to move it in general). Possibly Rosen?

Carolina have 30 million in cap space or something stupid. They don't need to move Pesce. Even if they were going for Hellebuyck (which they won't, rental on the wrong side of 30 is 101 what the Canes avoid) the only reason they'd move Pesce is if his extension was too rich. If 13 isn't on the table, they'll find another home. Pesce is going to be someone in high demand because DFD as good as Pesce are so rare. The only real comparables to guys like Slavin and Pesce right now are maybe Pulock and Pelech? They're very rare. It's going to cost something that hurts a ton to get a core piece of a team that just went to the Conference Finals

You have to give CAR incentive to move Pesce. 13OA provides some incentive.
It’s not as if they’ll beforced to trade him this offseason for the first offer that comes along
I guess I definitely underpaid for Pesce, that's fine, I'd add more, Rosen or Ostlund possibly, I really don't want to move 13 entirely, I would be ok with a trade back in the 1st.
My other argument is that while Carolina has cap room now, their entire team except for like 3 players is due a new contract after next season. I'm sure Aho, Necas, and Jarvis, chew up a bit of cap, I'd be willing to bet that Teravainen is gone. Carolina is definitely smart with their cap.
Maybe Hellebuyck isn't the best move for them, but he's arguably the best goalie in the league. IMO whoever signs him should get a 3-4 year NMC and then a 20-team NTC for the remainder of the contract so he can be moved in the future.
No from the Isles, not moving Wahsltrom and Ollofsson would not replace Nelson in the PP.
I was trying to target a team who needs PP help, Islanders had 31 PP goals on 5v4 last year, dead last. I figured they were also a team who could easily cover Olofsson's shortcomings. He isn't just a PP merchant, but he's definitely a weapon, would be an awesome triggerman for Barzal. I feel like Whalstrom has lost value and confidence, but maybe I don't pay attention enough and thats fine. I was targetting NYI, NSH, VGK for a Oloffson trade and NYI was the one I though had the most Win-Win there. Just my justification of why I chose them.

Barzal is not a center anymore and Oloffsson would not play with him 5x5 as they are both weak defensively. Isles PP problems are in the coaching, and they already added Horvat so they would be no spot for Oloffsson. Wahsltrom has not lost confidence he was playing very well before tearing his ACL.

13th pick would be absolutely insane for a rental d man about to turn 29. When does that ever happen? If he was 23 I could see it.
It's going to be the typical rental package of a 1st + 2nd + probably some good but not great prospect. If the Canes actually trade him.

If he was 23, 13th overall wouldn't even come close for Pesce.
Pesce has been a core piece of a cup-caliber team for half a decade. Defensive studs like Pesce are more difficult to replace than offensive ones, especially those who shoot right-handed. A 28 year old RHD who is one of the best in the league in his own zone is a pretty damn good piece that could be available. 13th overall is going to be the starting point from Buffalo, because plenty of other teams will be interested in Pesce

Lol be realistic. We've had guys way better than Pesce get traded. Dougie Hamilton got traded for the 15th pick + 2 2nds. He was 22 and could also play on the top PP.
You're completely ignoring the fact that he's a rental. He's turning 29 at the start of the season. Would likely want a long term deal extending him way into his 30s.
"13th overall is going to be the starting point from Buffalo" No 13th overall pick is a wet dream for Canes fans. Not a starting point. Especially in a draft like this.

He was also traded by Chiarelli... that should tell you what kind of company your proposal is in
13th overall is the starting point. Otherwise, Carolina will just walk away.
Bro Hampus Lindholm just got traded for a 1st + 2 2nds. That also came with an extension & Boston dumping a contract.
Take off the homer glasses.
Provorov just got traded for a 1st, 2nd, and Sean Walker... Provorov isn't as good as Pesce. That's much more recent and relevant than a deadline deal 18 months ago LMAO

Provorov isn't a rental & had 30% retention...
That's not even relevant to a rental. You have no clue wtf you're talking about lmao.

He's got an extra year, true. On the other hand, Pesce outscored Provorov who is supposed to be an offensive defenseman and is one of the best DFD in the sport...

You're comical LMAO
"He's got an extra year, true" Which means a ton for value. Same with retention. He's also 2+ years younger.
"Pesce outscored Provorov who is supposed to be an offensive defenseman" A difference of 3 points when one is on a bottom 3 team isn't really the counter you think it is.
A good comparison is Lindholm, but you want to completely ignore that because it shows how ridiculous your trade suggestions are.

Lindholm was a deadline deal, that's not the same at all. You can't use deadline prices 18 months ago. Pesce had 3 more points than Provorov, fine. But Pesce, without retention, makes less than Provorov WITH retention. That's more expensive. When you compare them defensively, it's not close. Pesce wipes the floor. Pesce's the better player too. The Provorov deal is a much better comparison because it happened this summer with this outlook. But you want to act like a trade from last deadline, not even this deadline, last deadline is more accurate a comparable. It's comical. It's ridiculous, and it shows that you're completely out of your depth here
