Hughes grows some hair and gets 2 top 5 picks

Created by: JeffGorton
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 15, 2023
Published: Jun. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Incoming "jackets want quality over quantity"

Dach would be the best center on the team, Slaf is a 1st overall pick is very good upside (1st line winger), Mesar is kinda stinky but he was a 1st rounder just last year and needs to be with his Slovak brother

And 2 1st rounders (1 late, 1 middle of the pack), an early 2nd and a late 2nd
Trades
MTL
  1. 2023 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Jackets get their top 6 center and sooooo much more
CBJ
  1. Dach, Kirby
  2. Mesar, Filip
  3. Slafkovsky, Juraj
  4. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
  5. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
  6. 2024 2nd round pick (COL)
  7. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
This is 100% an overpay but the chance to have Michkov and Carlsson is really worth it

And i know ill see a comment on this, no Caufield, Guhle or Hutson or the 2024 1st

If its so much of an overpay, then add Boqvist to the Jackets side, hes worth like a 37th and the 2023 COL 2nd

I admire you tremendously for posting this and I would admire Hughes even more if he did something like this. Wow!

Truly imaginative. Hat's off to you! applaud

Ya Habs dont even think about this one second. I’d be skeptical to trade Slaf for Carlsson. Carlsson is a center, ok I get it, but physical wise, no where near the power forward potential of Slaf. Carlsson was better in the league, fair enough, but Slaf was better internationally. Equals out pretty much at the end. The difference between Slaf and Carlsson is certainly not this boat load of good assets

Benefit of being the one holding the pick. If the Habs want it it'll be a deal that the Jackets can't refuse.

If I’m CBJ, I consider it but you’d want sizuki and the 5th probably. Or that package and the 2024 1st. Either way that’s a lot of assets to play around with for other pieces, if CBJ wants to contend right away.

I mean switch Suzuki for Dach and 2025 1st but the whole point of this is to acquire another top 5 pick so using any common sense, 5th is off the table

I just gave an offer that no gm in their right mind would give and only an incompetent one would reject. But again Jarmo stinks as a gm

Yup, total trash. Guess there's no point in dealing with the Jackets. Have a good one.

Carlsson doesn’t seem as good offensively as Barkov, I can see the defense part. Slaf is the between between Rantanen and Nichushkin, much closer than you would think. This trade is completely awful for MTL and it really cannot be debated

Jackets would get the 5th and some extra assets or Suzuki and some extra assets. Both is off the table. With the amount of centers on the market, id think theyd want quantity. So like they could use the pieces plus a Cole Sillinger to get a Scheifele or Lindholm

They just gave up a 1st rounder + for Provorov. Jarmo is speeding up the rebuild to save his job but its hurting the team long term

Yeah, but he's a total blockhead like you said so he's gonna go in two different directions and use the pick while passing on all the amazing offers. What a dummy, right? Oh, well it can't be helped.

Slaf is nowhere near the play driver as those 2. And Carlsson is better offensively. Put him with Caufield and Michkov and hes easily hitting 90+ with the elite defence

That’s what I’m saying, if they’re really trying to accelerate this. Which I don’t think they should even tho they’ve already started.. all those assets could come in very handy.

Tell me what roster spot that 22OA is taking? They have no room on the roster besides top 6 center which Kent Johnson/carlsson/sillinger have a much better chance of developing into faster. They have a young roster and tons of prospects already. Even if that pick hits they aren’t making the NHL roster anytime soon

Jackets biggest need is a 1C and it has been for the entire franchise history. They aren’t giving up the chance to draft one unless it’s an insane overpay or for an already established young star 1C

He will be better on the second pair playing less minutes. He’s also cheap and allows mateychuk/svozil/knazko/Christiansen two more years develop so they aren’t rushed into the NHL

They had better options and most of them are cheaper. Like Girard, Kylington, Pettersson, K'andre Miller or FAs like Dumoulin, Gustafsson, Graves,

Who knows how many of those guys are available. Miller definitely isn’t. None of the UFAs you mentioned are better

They were looking for a solid addition that was on 2-3 years term. That crosses out every name you just listed. Either they're not good enough or their contract is going to be too long.

Fact is nobody would be accusing the Jackets of "going all in" or "rushing the rebuild" if they had extended Gavrikov for 2 years. All they did was they took the return from Gavrikov and got a better defenseman for the term they wanted. People need to relax and stop acting like they know what's going on in Columbus. We're very aware that the Jackets are the team that always leads the polls when it's asked what team people forget exists. We're not going to believe you have the slightest clue of how the rebuild is going or what the timeline is when you admittedly never even think about or watch the team.

Very annoying when fans of other teams are always saying “I forgot the jackets even existed” and then turn around and tell you they are going all in and jarmo is an idiot and jackets fans don’t even understand their own team
