Seems I struck a nerve with the Columbus fans. You don't bring in Gaudreau, Severson and Gudbranson for their 30s, prime aged guys like Werenski, Provorov and Laine just to sit around and wait 3-5 years for your #1 C to arrive. They are drafting their 1C of the future this year. You want the perfect 1C piece right now? It will cost you more than spare parts like Sillinger and 2nds.
Okay, and we know that, and we're telling you anyway that trading Kent Johnson is a hard no. Even with all those players, a team still needs cheap young, good players to round out their rosters. If KJ is indeed nothing more than a wing (which is still debatable since he can't even legally drink in the US yet and is still physically developing, and even this past year he was taking on responsibilities usually done by centers from the wing), then that's one hell of a LW to add to a core of Werenski, Gaudreau, etc.
Just because a team has assets of the caliber of KJ, Jiricek, the 3OA doesn't mean they're on the table for trades. Those are the assets a team keeps. Columbus's second tier assets, Sillinger included, are equal to the best possible offer from most teams who'd be offering for Lindholm. Boston has nothing close to Sillinger to offer and would need you to take back cap. Carolina would be similar to Columbus in that the young high-end talent you'd want (Jarvis, Drury) would not be available but their lesser tier would be. Colorado is in full win-now and can probably offer the best package by virtue of their firsts being meaningless to them right now, but would Calgary necessarily only want futures?
