Description
I don't like the trades for Sharangovich that involve a first. It's just a bit too much imo. I look at acquiring him as similar to what the cost was for Burakovsky. Problem is that Colorado doesn't have a 2nd.

Enter Granlund. Pens pay to dump him, and Avs get the asset they need to acquire Sharangovich. Granlund also fills a need, so it's even better. Problem solved!

Isn't granlund a cap dump for pits.. 5 mill in space for a project on a contender isn't the best idea.

What do you think the chances are of the avs drafting musty at 27th, MacKenzie has him ranked at 26th

He's a cap dump for the Pens, which is why they send to Colorado a 2nd to get rid of him. But I don't think he's nearly as bad as his performance in Pittsburgh and would fit well with the Avs. He wasn't bad the first part of last year it just didn't work out in Pittsburgh for some reason.

I can't really get a handle on the back half of the first round this year. Seems there is quite a bit of variation in rankings. I do think there will be a good player there for the taking though, which is why I very much want to keep that pick and figure out other ways to fill some holes. The Avs desperately need to start restocking the system imo.

Probably around market value for Sharangovich. Not a bad offer at all imo. Personally I’d want them to try and a get at least a 23 2nd, but tbf if they were to accept this deal they almost certainly would flip that pick to improve the active roster in some way.

He is only a cap dump because he played so poorly in Pit. I agree with your assessment that he would be better in the West (Col, Dal, and StL were the three that I thought of first).

That said, the Pens can buy him out relatively easily with little cap implications. They probably wouldn't trade a 2nd to get 1MM in cap relief this year and 2MM next year.

They would have to pay him for two more years after that though too, so they would avoid any cap hit for 4 years. That's arguably worth a 2nd imo.

Totally a fair argument. I think the cap going up and the Pens likely being non-competitive in 4 years, works against the trade though. But, you never know.

I could be convinced into sending something back from Colorado. Maybe the 2025 4th?

I understand the thought process, but I think the pens should just keep their second - trade for Sharangovich themselves and either buy out granlund or figure out a different way to trade him.

Tbf most of the trades which have a first going for Yegor also have McLeod in there as well so it's not a straight up first for him, and due to how he's valued (and rightly so that he's highly valued imho even if slightly overvalued) in NJ, it's likely to take an overpay to acquire both him and Yegor. These aren't bad moves however as alternatives to that. I don't think the Pens will give up a second to dump Granlund though which is where it all kinda falls apart. Maybe, but it seems steep as he's still a useful player.

I guess at least there's no J. Toews in this iteration though so that's something! squinting with tongue out

Maybe. I think Dubas might be willing to part with a 3rd or 4th. I don't know if he would do a 2nd...
Maybe deals a 2nd and a 3rd is returned?

But, I could be off. Maybe Dubas has a better plan?
