Why would anyone sign Zucker for 8 years? Garland is worth more than a 3rd

I think smith would play over ruhwedel and we prob need a better 3C but I think this is realistic and a much improved team

Didn't see Zucker was 8 years and the goalie situation can't look like that going into the season

The intent would be to get him on a cheaper annual cap hit and then when they're rebuilding not care whether he's a complete liability. Which could be smart. Zucker has major durability issues and could be primed for a massive decline in the near future though. So I'd rather use that tactic on other players.

Yeah you don't sign 31 year old players with durability issues to 8 year contracts. There will definitely be a massive decline

I fully agree. Much rather use that tactic on an equally productive and younger UFA winger with less durability/age decline risk. I think a lot of Pens fans are way overrating Zucker based on his very strong most recent year whilst ignoring the years leading up to that where he was very disappointing.

You sign Zucker for 8 years because you know you'll be LTIRetiring him at some point during the contract lol

Insiders seem to think Garland has negative value given how bad the Canucks cap situation is (even after buying out OEL). Look what Bjorkstrand got last year in a trade. Both wingers.

As a Canuck fan I think a 3rd is totally reasonable. And a good move for the right team. He's a decent player. We just need to reallocate some winger money to 3c and defence.

Isn't Vancouver thinking of paying to get rid of him?

Servalli: garland is a free asset, teams want assets to take him

Bad cap situation where they have 10 mil in cap space this offseason with no players to re-sign?

Nope. Other teams have 0 leverage now that the Canucks gain 7 mil in cap space after the OEL buyout

You only have 17 players under contract according to this site and 5 mill is on LTIR

You can't bury Carter btw. Definitely use that extra cap on a goalie

Dont believe all the B.S. Garland is a good player and will fetch a min 3rd.I will be happy to revisit this if and when he is traded.
