    Additional Details:
if they want (they actually might) I added granlund to the trade for cap reasons. if they don't I just buy him out (I left 800k in cap for his buyout).

schmaltz: 1st rounder 2023 + pickering (value of another first) + ty smith (young cheap and very bright future offensive D) + 3rd round pick

vejmelka: 2nd rounder + Blomqvist (great goalie prospect) + solid backup in de smith + 3rd round pick

I believe this trade is pretty fair. still able to add if necessary don't think is necessary tho.

Canes don’t want Jarry. He is just as oft injured as Freddie, and frankly, and this is more of a personal opinion, but I see him as being better than Freddie either. They also have Raanta they could choose to sign, and they have been linked to Gibson as well. There are plenty of options before they consider Jarry.

yeah a ton of teams need goalies tho so some team (maybe not the canes) will sign jarry. I thought the canes would have been a very good situation for him. a very solid D and a good backup in raanta that can take some of the load. perfect situation for jarry to excel. and jarry is younger and better than Freddie.

still this is a very marginal deal in this agm but you make a good point.

Why would Zona do that? Its going to take that first just to take on granlund. Now you have a bunch of fringe pieces for Schmaltz and Vej? I don’t think Vej is that great but there isn’t any quality there

I wouldn't do that deal for Arizona either. I figure they could get more in two smaller deals. But thinking the 14th overall in a strong draft is fair value for 2 years of Granlund on a rebuilding team is also brain dead. Every non-contender would take Granlund for the 14th and add their own early second at least. If not a late first.

Forward core is very good here. Defense is the concern. Instead of signing Zucker I'd probably go for a puck mover to compliment Soucy like Shane Gosbisbierre

To be fair - Jarry's played the 6th most games in the league over the past 3 seasons.

I do think you'll have to buyout Granlund as you mentioned because his cap dump would cause you to have to add a lot more to the trade. I like Schmaltz a lot - I think you probably underpaid a bit for him - but that might be covered by the overpayment on Vejmelka.

I think it's a really good team, personally I'd just keep Desmith, but still a really good team. You are going to run into some issues though with Carter not going on LTIR and Varlamov making more than that.

granlund is not the point here. if you read the trade granlund can easily be bought out. and I have kept 800k in cap space to do so.

on the actual deal calling Blomqvist and pickering fringe pieces is not correct. they have a lot of value for a team that is looking to rebuild with youth.

I get that but then you'd have to pay petry 6 mil for a third pair role. I think you either sell him or hope in a bounce back year considering that 6 mil for a third pairing guy are a complete waist. but yeah I see your point.

thanks. you might be right on the ari deal but at the end of the day is one big deal so I think it balances out.

yeah I'm probably dreaming, we are stuck with Carter.

even at his age? how much more? cuz I have like 700k left lol

Right, that's what I was going for - might not have explained it well haha.

I think so at least - even at his age. I'd guess like 3-3.5mil personally. I know he's up there in age, but his production has still been great. Was a great starter and then became a backup not necessarily because he got worse but because Sorokin is a top 5 goalie in the league. His performance is still there. I'd be surprised if he went from 5mill AAV to anything under 3. But that's obviously just speculation and what I think personally. I don't know what any of the projection guys are giving him.

yeah I see your point that is fair. he probably will look to a 1a-1b situation cuz 3-3.5 mil for strictly a backup might be tough to get. but nonetheless you are right his performance is still vey good.

Even if you can buy him out, that doesn’t reduce his cost to move. Also Blomqvist is still a young goalie that doesn’t crack the top 10 drafted goalies list. So yea he isn’t a for sure thing. Nothing of quality here to be worth moving a near ppg RW on a good contract.

    1. yes it does. if his buyout was like 4mil per season we would have been forced to trade him and that would increase the price obviously. this is not the case were the pens are willing to give up close to nothing because if not they can just buy him out with barely any cost at all.

    2. ari or other teams may objectively see that granlund his obviously overpaid but with cap not being a concern they could actually gain a couple of later picks from the pens. hope him to have a decent year playing top 6 minutes and than trade him at the deadline with 50% retain and gain more draft capital.... worse case scenario? he plays awful and helps them get to the cap floor. not a big deal.

    3. you are undervaluing Blomqvist by quite a bit here. and again 2023 1st rounder is quality. pickering is quality. smith is quality. and 2nd rounder is quality.
I guess sure de smith the two 3rds are less valuable but still decent pieces.

It does for the sake of this trade though. What he's saying is Granlund can just be removed from the trade and bought out - and he left enough space to do so. Therefore you wouldn't have to account for any cost of dumping Granlund in the trade.

Again the first is to move the cap dump. A mid to late 2nd in a bad draft isn’t quality for a schmaltz level player. Again without blomqvist not being in the top 100 prospect or top goalie prospect lists, he isn’t the quality needed to pull a schmaltz level player.

Then remove him from the trade because it pulls down the value of the trade a lot. Even then the first is the only value thing to acquire a near ppg RW. Schmaltz is going to take a 1st, A prospect, and a 3rd piece to acquire. Ty smith is a very meh defender so you need an A prospect to make it interesting

Come on man lol - you can just do it in your head. It's not that difficult. He acknowledged that Granlund could cause issues for the trade and gave an alternative in the description.

Just look at the trade without Granlund there if he's that much of an issue.

Again the first is to move the cap dump. A mid to late 2nd in a bad draft isn’t quality for a schmaltz level player. Again without blomqvist not being in the top 100 prospect or top goalie prospect lists, he isn’t the quality needed to pull a schmaltz level player.

Again no. read description of the trade.
