So all the team is missing is 9 new players? Whew I thought there was something really wrong with the team!

All these ridiculous under offers to UFAs, who say no. All these weak TOR trades?

And all this and only 4 mil over the cap? Wow.

What a waste of time

@hammerwise - you must have the inside scope LOL that no one is privy to; please feel free to share all of your worldly wisdom of what will and won't work. Speaking of waste of time.

The team literally has half the team UFA so yes, there will be change; accept it. I'm always down for some constructive criticism and fun banter, and completely understand I have a leaf bias, but geeze let it go. It's not a personal attack and you choose to click on it. You come on to have some fun, and then you get this type of ****. It seems like you should use your time elsewhere. I regret nothing smile LOL

Kane will be on LTIR for most of the season, so for now you could slide in Robertson and that brings the cap deficit down to -1.25M. Wilson is not getting traded so you can just scratch that trade all together. Jarnkrok is a decent player at a decent price point so no point in dealing him, with that you're under the cap. Hart is also not needed so eliminate that trade as well, just run with Samsonov and Woll. With reverting those two trades, that's ~14.87M in and ~9.18m out which puts the cap deficit to -5.69M. Basically need to find Brodie a new home without taking on cap.

As for signings, Mayfield probably needs at least 500K more, Graves 1.5M more (for good measure). Bertuzzi 1M+ more apparently he doesn't want to play in Canada but that could have been just a COVID thing but you can't afford him anyways so scratch him out. The cap is now at ~+3M, although you have Kane on LTIR, so consider it 0. You still have an opening at 1LW, so now is when you would trade Nylander maybe for futures, and then you could acquire Crouse or someone.

The forward group would then look something like this:

Crouse - Matthews - Perry (Kane)
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - O'Reilly - Hathaway
Lafferty - Kampf - Acciari

Scratches: McCann/Holmberg, Schenn

Trading for Hart would be nonsensical as you already have Sammy and Woll, just keep willy.

SDA isn't playing in NA this year.

Robertson will be off IR at season start so you can slide him into LW slot and take a guy out.

but why make all these moves, make kind of really low offers to UFAs that they wont accept and then present a team 4 mil over the cap?

Present something at least of interest or label it fantasy.

You're new to this site - you will quickly find out that there are some common names that pop up in the comment section all the time who think they know everything, you would think they have group chats with all GMs. They take offence when you don't share their opinion, they need to lighten up a little bit for sure. I don't agree with most of what you posted here, but i'm not going to give you hell for it.

Just one piece of advice, leaf fans have to play by a different set of rules on this site. There are a lot of trolls who will try to convince you that leaf players are worthless in trades, are "cap dumps", and leafs have to overpay in any and all trades.

While there are a lot of ridiculous leaf posts on here that make leaf fans look bad, there are also plenty of insufferable fans of other teams as well. They are just immune to some of the criticism leaf fans get,

Have a good one, go leafs go!

I'm curious about this one - why do you think that? You are trading for an unproven goalie that has shown flashes of greatness but nothing sustained for a player that had 87 points last year and has 2x30 goal and 1x 40 goal seasons. So, he is a proven point-getter; seems like the Leafs are taking more of the gamble. Sounds awfully similar to Matt Murray when the Sens traded for him a bunch of promise but nothing guaranteed.

Curious as to why - PS we are all underpaid

Why not make more moves? We have a team that hasn't done anything with what they have, so the goal for you is to run it back AGAIN? HA! You have no clue what people will accept and won't accept. So, you can share your opinion, but don't act like you know everything be respectful to others trying to enjoy their time.

That’s quite literally what I’m saying Toronto’s GM should be fired if he makes that offer for Hart. Also I didn’t even realize that u underpaid half of the UFAs and ur already $4M over the cap. I mean Bertuzzi probably wouldn’t do less than a 6x6 and ROR isn’t take that little just to start with two of them.

Sharks likely do that, but without the 5th going back. A 2nd round pick is fair compensation for 4.6m cap dump. Especially since I think CBJ will be making a solid playoff push this year and that will end up being a mid round pick.

Gotcha on the BT (didn't put two and two together). So makes more sense smile. Underpaying is subjective IMO. Most of the players got a bump I probably undershot with Mayfield and Graves, but what can ya do. For ROR, I'm not convinced that he wouldn't take less to be here and again it was 4M with term so giving to get. For Bert it's a bit unknown - the kid has played more than 60 gave 3 times in 8 years and has only broken the 50-point mark once 5x5 (I think that's what I did) is fair, More of a risk-reward type of thing.

I'm not the leafs GM nor will I ever be (at least I think - here's hoping), but that's my take.

If we were competing for the playoffs that would likely influence our decision making, but as a rebuilding team it wont. Makiniemi is likely ready for more NHL time and even if he isn't there are always plenty of vet free agents looking for a paycheck. Also Drieger, Campbell and Forsberg are all vets other teams might be looking to move on from for salary cap reasons too. Even Aaron Dell is still with the org and would chomp at the bit for another shot. Murray would be better than all of them, but it doesn't really matter when "has a pulse" is your biggest requirement. Basically the Sharks shouldn't surrender value on cap deals just because the player coming back will get time in the lineup.

Never seen a new person come on so strong, but anyways....

The whole point is maybe you dont want to discuss your ideas, thats fine, but you posted your ideas so people can discuss them. Looking at your trades and resignings, etc...but its kind of irrelevant for people to discuss your ideas, if you start out by being 4mil over the cap.

The general consensus is you are underpaying the UFAs, but thats irrelevant because you're over the cap even with those.

Maybe I came in too strong, and I apologize, but the whole premise and ideas are flawed if your result is 4mil over the cap.
