You could try something like this. It has been documented many times (even by the leafs aka Marleau) that dumping a 5mil salary costs something like a 1st round pick
TOR
2024 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Or you could lower the pick and take a cap dump back, such as Carter. Or maybe work a deal around swapping Murray for Granlund
bro. we dumped mrazek (3.8m for two years) last year and moved down 15 spots in the draft. murray is a decent goalie when hes healthy. if it costs that much to trade him, they will just buy him out.
I mean, I agree with you. but half the leaf ACMs think they can dump murray and give nothing up in the process.
What did it cost calgary to dump 1 year of Monahan last summer?
He is also a semi decent player who has trouble staying off of the IR.

You made a bad comparison with Marleau and Murray. 6m Marleau could not be bought out due to signing his contract after the age of 35, so his 6m cap hit was going to someone.
As indicated above Murray is relatively cheap buyout

What did it cost Calgary to dump one season of Monahan last summer?
AMEN!!!!
Murray gets "injured" every time he has a bad game. It's been that way for years. Just buy him out and save yourself the grief. Pens have been there and have no desire to go back to those days

That was Calgary's doing, giving up a first rounder. No reason for the Leafs to do it. Don't know what Monahan's buyout was but by salary I'm guessing 25% higher than Murray's to the Leafs.
