Adding Karlsson

Created by: Boomer125
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 28, 2023
Published: Jun. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Retention is basically Karlsson is owed 39million over 4 years so I figured a small retention of what you see here could actually facilitate a trade
Sharks are getting 3 solid prospects here, a good number of picks, Sharks will have to take money back and they'll have a use or need for a Goalie and Dman who are both on expiring contracts

Sure TO is selling the farm here but this EK65 the window is open and I believe with the cap rise of about 4-5 million next season Leafs have enough to resign both Matthews and Nylander but may need to move on Lilly and Robertson next offseason pending the cap rise situation

I don't think 2 late round picks and a bunch of spare parts gets you Karlsson, especially a retained Karlsson.

It will require a lot more in retention.

Not enough retention for what youre giving up. Arguably our top 3 prospects? no guarantee cap goes up 5 mil in the next few years.

Sharks have two goalies. SJ is not a catch all for all your crap contracts anyway.

Yes but they're both expiring and the Sharks are tanking this year. The retention amount is actually low in this deal which is the biggest win for the Sharks. Then we get 2 1sts, 2 3rds, and some okay to decent prospects. I would hope GMMG would accept something like this.

Do you envision both Reilly & EK on PP1? Great player but just don’t see how he makes sense on our team, especially at that cap hit. Also doesn’t seem to fit Tre profile - he prefers (I think) big physical dmen.

If hypothetically this trade was to happen, I see EK on PP1, Rielly on PP2 and then it's possible the Leafs would look to move Rielly in the offseason, he's well priced has term and is in his prime years. I can a Seattle being very interested in a Morgan Rielly

That's true there is no Guarantee the cap goes up 5 Mill next season and if that's the case then the possibility of moving on from Morgan Rielly becomes very much possible. It's really 1 really tight cap season and then JTs 11 million comes available which would cover any needed raises with some left over to plug holes in FA
