Why are the Flames including a first here?

Jared Bednar does not like players that are defensive liabilities so Olofsson is a no-go for the Avs. I do like Lyubushkin, though.

It was a sabres writer and flames writer and both agreed it was fit for both teams.

Buffalo could quite possibly have the worse first or better record on the season?

Then they're both idiots, you don't have to be smart to be a sportswriter. It makes no sense, the CGY pick will likely end up higher than the Buffalo pick. I'd rather keep Hanifin and lose him for nothing next summer than make this trade

Look at Provorov trade. He is going to be UFA and will not resign. Saying you would rather lose him for nothing is dumb. You will be terible this year. Getting a young center who has been one of the best defensive dman with upside on offense. Sabres are to deep in forwards for him to get a shot.

I agree that the Flames will be bad this year. Which is why flipping first round picks with Buffalo is insane

And they could trade Hanifin at the deadline still, for a return equal to or better than Krebs

If the trade was just Hanifin for Krebs + 2024 1st, then yeah it makes sense
