Description
Per Rob Rossi of the athletic the pens have talked to the following teams about trades:

Rangers
Ducks
Jets
Flames

Below are my thoughts on players the penguins have called those teams about
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Gibson, John
  2. Henrique, Adam
  3. Silfverberg, Jakob
Additional Details:
Ducks already said they're letting Comtois walk so no need to trade for his RFA rights.

I wouldn't spend a 1st on any of these three personally, maybe a 2024 if salary is retained but Henrique and Silfverberg would both be rentals given their age.

Gibson's contract is pretty brutal.
ANA
2.
PIT
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. Lafrenière, Alexis [RFA Rights]
  3. Lindgren, Ryan
Additional Details:
this one is a bit of a head scratcher... before rags fans get angry I truly have no idea what the rangers are looking to do with the roster. I assume Signing K'andre Miller is the main focus this summer and guessing he'll fall somewhere between the 6-7M AAV? Schneider, Kakko, Lindgren are all RFA next summer. Plus Laf currently and RFA.

So I wonder if it's moving someone like Goodrow, moving lindgren or Laf to get assets rather than letting them walk?

Could it be trading a UFA player like Mikkola or Motte?

Really no idea here.
NYR
3.
PIT
  1. Barron, Morgan [RFA Rights]
  2. Hellebuyck, Connor
  3. Lowry, Adam
  4. Niederreiter, Nino
  5. Pionk, Neal
  6. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
WPG is another headscratcher... i think they actually improved their team with the PLD return, but if Hellebuyck still wants out maybe they're trying to retool on the fly?

I don't think Pens trade for Hellebuyck, but maybe they go for someone else.

I put Pionk here because the current rumor is the Pens are trying to move Petry to SJ which would in turn open a RD spot.

WPG have so many LD, so maybe ome of them could be a target, I definitely think Hellebuyck is one as well.

Only trading goodrow makes sense. No reason to trade Lindgren or Laffy

Personally don't think Pens go for hellebuyck unless the price is right. Let the Devils or someone send a 1st + for him.

yeah like i said, just spit balling, Not sure what Lindgren will look for $ wise next summer, and not really sure what the deal is with Laf, obviously has not lived up to first overall expectations, Kakko at least had a step up this season and if he takes another what will he cost. So i threw Laf in there as a "maybe rangers part ways and see what they can get back".

They’ll just trade Lindgren’s rights or sign & trade if he’s too expensive

As for Laffy, whatever they get back probably won’t be worth it. They don’t need 1st round picks, they need players that help win now. And 40 points from the 3rd line at $2.5m is fine with me

Wait where's the rumor that Petry could be going to SJ. I've been on Twitter but haven't seen anything related to that.

Makes total sense, I thought I read Laf still believes he is a top 6 forward on a team so thought process there was stick him next to Sid if he isn't going to resign in NYR.

Well the rangers are dumb. The top 6 should be set with 1 of Kreider, Panarin or Laffy moving to RW

I'd be very surprised if the penguins and Rangers made any major roster trades. Maybe exchanging futures.

Just guessing at this point who might be the NYR trade candidate but I wonder if it could be Trocheck? Pens were rumored to be interested in signing him last offseason. Not saying he’s getting traded but besides the names you mentioned I can’t think of anyone else.

Yeah, it might end up in a trade but I'm certain Dubas is at least kicking tires.

He turns 30 in three weeks and still has 4 years at $6.4M, that's pretty brutal to me when you compare Saros at 2 years left at $5M AAV and a year younger, Ullmark the same age and 2 years at $5M

If the penguins have to send a 1st for Gibson i'd much rather send it for Saros or Ullmark, fits their time horizon better and both are better goalies.

**Hextall was interested** i'm not sure the current penguins would be, specially for his AAV and term.

While this is true in terms of Saros. Arguments could be made that if Gibson bounces back to his normal behind a competent defense and puts up better numbers, the contract would be considered much better. It all depends on the performance. Sergei Bobvroksy’s 10 million dollars is horrible contract, but he played like a 10 million dollar goalie in the playoffs.

I truly do believe any team that Gibson goes to, he will instantly succeed with. He’s been locked with horrible just horrible defenses in the past few years with little to zero help.

Is he worth a first? I don’t know. GM’s see things we don’t. For all we know he could fetch a 1st and a top prospect or he could fetch nothing more than a 3rd. Fans have little knowledge about what GM’s are willing to give and send for players.

If Gibson is traded, it’s likely today or tomorrow. So we’ll see.

There’s also been a report that Pittsburgh is open to moving their 2023 1st and the teams they’ve talked to about it was Anaheim Calgary (and I forgot the other)

I think regardless what happens, one side of fans will be surprised and the other won’t

I wouldn't be anti Gibson, but i'm giving up a 1st round pick for him.

They've said they'd move the 1st for a *Current young NHL Player* no one on Anaheim fits that mold unless for some reason they'd trade Terry or zegs lol
