I don't know man, I don't spend all day over analyzing mock trades made by 16 year olds. I come here to spark debates and have fun. I'm not deflecting, my opinion on this trade practically lines up with what everyone else is saying.

That's the way it would and will be. But I find it just crazy how according to the people on this site, Marner has almost no value. It's mind numbing

To the Devils and at the cost of Hischier, he doesn't. There's always further context within trades. Is Marner great? Yeah. But New Jersey isn't moving him to fill a position they don't need at the cost of their Selke finalist center.

Marner has a TON of value. But his 10.9m cap hit and his 2 years of term would make him harder to move. So there would only be a few teams in on him.
Hischier is also very young, signed for 4 more years, has a 7.25m cap hit and was also just up for the selke and dropped a point per game. ALOT of teams would be in on Hischier if he became available.

Cap hit and term is why Hischier is more valuable than Marner. It isn't by much though but he would be worth more.

Now looking at New Jersey specifically, Hischier is clearly the better fit over Marner. For the Leafs, Hischier would be more valuable because he brings a lot of the same elements as Marner, although a little less scoring, he fills a spot down the middle, but the Leafs would also get over 3.5m in cap savings.

I mean all of this with ZERO disrespect to Marner. He is a stud and a half.

Find me any non leaf fan who thinks Marner has any value.

Marner > Hischier; contract makes it closer but still not up for debate. Marner’s production (gpg & ppg) is significantly higher, he plays more minutes and is equal defensively. I always think the centre over winger debate is overplayed. Some of the greatest players in the game play wing. I get why devils might want to keep hischier but there is no doubt on who the better player is.
