good job. yes. New rumour is we sign josh Bailey on a cheaper contract because he's got lots of history with our coaches.

Canucks pass either we pay a pick for the cap space or we retain we don't do both.

1) Bertuzzi and Reaves signing in Ottawa is wishful thinking. Not only Ottawa isn't a UFA destination but ownership/management/coaching is not settled. Plus, Bertuzzi doesn't look like he'll want to play in Canada

2) #1 above is why you shouldn't trade Joseph. He could be traded for Garland but since Garland is the better player, it would probably be straight up without retention, then maybe the pick would be added

3) Keep Parker Kelly, cheap 13th forward. In the real world, you carry a 13th forward

4) That price for Saros is insane. If the Preds trade Saros, it means they are rebuilding/retooling, in that case they would be looking for pure futures or would have to flip DeBrincat (so a 3-way trade?)

Anton Forsberg only has 2 years at 2.75 AAV, he is pretty underrated. He has a 0.911 SV% in Ottawa, in this mess of a defensive system. He has been the best Sens goalie in the last 6 years, by far.

Now yes Saros is great and a clear upgrade on him but you're paying a 2nd round pick, Erik Brannstrom a young rising 2-way D-man who had top percentile advanced stats last season, who I wouldn't trade for a late 1st myself and Alex DeBrincat, a 25 y/o top line winger who should have 1st + 2nd + 3rd value at least

If Dorion does this, he better go hiding cause I'd track him down.

For NSH, Cat for Saros wouldn't happen exactly because trading Saros is the initiation of a full rebuild. It doesn't make sense to trade for a guy about to enter/just entering his prime when starting a rebuild. You are right NSH would want futures for Saros, but also promising prospects/young NHL players. Especially those at center.

LeBrun also reported Saros wasn't being shopped and is likely to remain with NSH unless someone makes Trotz an offer he can't ignore.

That said, if Saros would be going to OTT, the piece I would be most interested in seeing come back to NSH is Norris, but that I would think that is a no-go for OTT, considering it would be Norris+ to get Saros

Agree with what you said but wait, Norris + for Saros? Goalies don't return anywhere near that. Look in trade history. I can give you all the links if you want

You realize that Josh Norris was a top line center at 21 y/o? He faced top competition and actually came on top (see graphic below)

You realize that before this season, he had scored 47 goals in his last 91 games at like 22 y/o? Which was like 12th in the NHL or something

Norris is a young 2-way center with elite finishing ability, debatable if he is better defensively or at scoring goals. He is signed long term under 8.0, you don't trade that kind of asset.

Only piece they'd trade Norris for would be Forsberg but it doesn't make sense to get 4 years older and disrupt the center line. Norris isn't going anywhere

Why would the Canucks give up the far better player, add a pick that’s more valuable than the player they’re getting, while also retaining 2M so they aren’t even saving any cap space?

That's what I thought with Norris. Back at the deadline, David Pagotta reported that the asking price for Saros would be a 1st and multiple A-tier prospects. It has seemed that if teams want Saros they have to be willing to pay a premium for him. His situation is a bit unique and it is hard to find comps for the scenario.

He is an elite goaltender who has been highly consistent in his time in the NHL since his first season posting no lower than a .914 SV% since starting in the NHL and has been above a .918 SV% for the last 2 years since taking over from Rinne while on a struggling NSH team, propelling them into playoff contention who had no business being there, and is on an extremely friendly contract for the next 2 years in an time where cap space is at a premium.

The closest comp really is Schneider who fetched 9th OA, but he was set to be a UFA and was on a worse contract when traded. As a result, Saros's current contract has to play a role in the transaction, hence the high asking price.

In my head the trade that would be Norris and Saros would be something like Saros and NSH's 2024 2nd round pick for Norris, OTT's 2024 1st round pick and OTT's 2024 4th round pick. I can see how it would both teams need and helps NSH rebuild faster given Saros's departure while giving them the 1C they have wanted since inception, and gives OTT the goal tender they need to take their roster and win now. I doubt either team would agree though as they would each argue it isn't enough in return for either, but that likely just means it wouldn't happen. It's more something I just wouldn't be opposed too.
