Description
GMs often will help the other GMs that they have good relationships with and think highly of.

BIll Zito has spoken highly of Kyle Dubas in the past and are apparently pretty close. Zito is also from Pittsburgh.

Panthers are going to start the season without Montour or Ekblad, and reportedly missing them for at least half the year. (both RD).

Carlsson, Fitzgerald, Gudas and Staal are all UFAs. I can't see them bringing Staal back, maybe not Gudas either.

They're shopping Duclair.

This give them a veteran RD with retention, can also run the PP until Montour and Ekblad return.

I'd also consider a Rutta and a pick for Duclair. Salaries are near the same and Rutta can eat minutes during the season and be swapped at the deadline or kept.

Kekalainen is another GM that's spoke highly of Dubas. CBJ needs cap space and if they're still trying to land Lindholm, i wonder if Kekalainen moves Roslovic to Pittsburgh for the cheap. CBJ gives pittsburgh their needed 3C, Pittsburgh Gives CBJ needed cap space.

Another question is would Nashville take Granlund back? Obviously the penguins would have to pay but from Nashville's standpoint that'd be phenomenal asset mgmt by them. Got a 2nd at the deadline, he comes back, you get another 2nd + maybe a prospect or a 4th rd? It appears Nashville is full sending rebuild and giving younger guys opportunities. Would bring a veteran center back that has chemistry with Forsberg, knows the system and can mentor for two more years.

End result:

- Penguins add another winger, a 3C plus shed cap.
- CBJ free cap space for possible Lindholm trade
-Florida gets a Vet RD to fill void while Ekblad + Montour are on LTIR.

Yeah but wasn't Duchene also a locker room nightmare?? Trotz wants to establish a good culture in nashville, that's why he moved Johansen and bought out Duchene.

So Zito is going to purposefully make a bad trade that harms his team... to help out kyle dubas. Fascinating.

CBJ aren't in the business of helping Pittsburgh out, no matter who your PoHOps is. We're fine to deal Roslovic, but unless you overpay, it's likely gonna be somewhere else. The chances we pursue a Lindholm deal aren't high; I suspect they'd sooner go after Backlund because it would cost less to obtain him and he wouldn't require a long-term commitment. And we've got plenty of cap space to do that even if we don't move Roslovic (though I suspect we will).

i don't know how it hurts the panther with retention. Petry played good this season and actually improved from the years prior in MTL. Can leave Ducalair out of the deal and send a 5th rd instead for all i care.

CBJ doesn't really have a rivalry with Pittsburgh or anyone in the Metro it seems? but I don't think the pens or anyteam would need to over pay for a player that it seems your org. is trying to move on. Bump it to a 3rd rounder, idk that you get much more for that.

Yeah, I agree. It's not a rivalry in the sense of, like, Habs vs. Bruins or Flames vs. Oilers, but they are in the same division and teams are often hesitant to trade within the division. Pittsburgh would be a great destination for Jack, and it's geographically the closest to home that he can get. Jarmo has a reputation for taking players' preferences into account and I don't see why he would have an issue with sending Jack there since the fit here is no longer very good.

A 3rd would get it done, I suspect. But ask any Columbus fan how they feel about the Penguins (and their fans, for that matter).

i mean i'd be frustrated too if shoe was on the other foot. Penguins have dominated the jackets.

If it helps, I was honestly hoping CBJ got 1OA this year, great fan base and much much more deserving of a game changer like bedard than Chicago. Chicago just got off a streak of Kane and Toews... they don't deserve Bedard, and shouldn't have even had the pick imo with the Kyle Beach stuff.

AGREED. But Fantilli is quite a nice consolation prize, and is honestly a better bet to stick down the middle long-term. And while we've had electrifying wingers in the past (Nash, Panarin, now Johnny and Laine), we've NEVER had a true, legit, dominant 1C. This is our shot at it.

Fantilli is exciting as hell. Honestly hate that he went to CBJ Lol but hopeful it can be a key stone player for them.
