I dont really get Trotz vision

Created by: jwg314
Team: 2023-24 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 1, 2023
Published: Jul. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He dumps Johansen half retained, buys out Duchene, adds a 32yo 2C/34yo okay winger/34yo bottom pairing D and it sounds like he's going hardest after Debrincat at the moment. Looking at this squad on paper, it looks like a first round exit/WC team for a couple more years until Saros leaves and then it gets worse. Seems like it's just prolonging the rebuild for a couple more years which just makes the prospects coming in more underwhelming. They already had a good start on their prospect pool with Askarov/Kemell/L'Hereux/Schaefer/Svechkov/Wood/Molendyk. Why not improve that even more?

Am I wrong?

Can't see the Canucks being interested in Barrie, could see us being interested in a Fabbro/Sissons trade tho,

He's not in on Cat, nor is he in on anybody from the Canucks. Trotz wanted a culture change. He was tired of guys on our team making millions to slack off and produce a half arsed effort. ROR and Schenn have won cups, he wanted to bring in vets to help mentor our younger players in this retool.

All 3 are BC boys! I think that pick/prospect would have to be pretty solid to get that done. Would be curious of NSH fans opinions.

Do you like where the team appears to be headed?

Looks like he's trying to win a cup. He buys out duchene and trades banged up johansen to shake up the core.

He's trying to mix vets with rookies.

Defense in front of Saros looks pretty solid, but forwards severely lack star power despite decent depth. Maybe the plan is to trickle in the prospects in the next couple years while the vets eventually move out. But even still, I don’t see much of a contention chance with this roster.

Also considering how much he wanted to trade up in the draft (despite getting nothing done), I assumed he wanted to move towards improving prospect star potential.

I think moving johansen was smart but moving duchene was a blindside

Yeah, i agree with that. Maybe there's long-term concern with the outlook on his finger?

My vision for Barrie was maybe they could use someone that could run PP2, but maybe Hronek would be comfortable enough with that.

Hronek is already handling that. Not paying 4.5 mil for a dud who can only run a powerplay. Would cost you a lot to dump

I would say Barrie and Beauvillier aren't far off in straight up trade value right now. I added the pick since Beau is younger. Don't blame you if it doesn't really entice you though.

I think Fabbro and Sissons for Garland and a 2nd/decent prospect or Garland with retention and weaker futures could be good for both sides.

The Preds are gonna be the most mid team in the NHL. They will win games and stay somewhat competitive, but highly unlikely they make playoffs. They should have kept Johansen and Duchene until the cap went up and then actually try trading them for a return. As it stands they lost two 40+ point players and got literally nothing.

I agree completely. I support the Johansen move but I think they should have waited on buying out Duchene and tried to find a buyer for him (even with retention) for anything or nothing. The cap penalty the next two years alone is going to be disgusting.

Duch and RyJo definitely aren’t great culture guys, but he is hurting the team for years with the Duch buyout and ROR contract. Culture matters, but he’s tipping the scales here away from talent and prudent spending.

He said directly "I don't want players to come here to retire, I want them to come here to win".

Nashville won't really be pressed for cap anytime soon. Our only notable contract needing extensions being Tomasino, Novak (if he does well), Parssinen and Fabbro.
Tipping the scales away from talent is fine, considering he wants to take a few steps back before taking a step forward. Developing our young guys is key here. ROR and Schenn contracts aren't ideal based on length, but with the cap going up, who cares. They are vets who've won cups and offer leadership on the ice and in the room. He's filling the holes in our lineup with cheap(ish) vets who can be great mentors. While letting guys like Evangelista, Parssinen, Tomasino, grow.

      I'm on board with it.
