gibson trade partner from left field

Created by: Jphaxx
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2023
Published: Jul. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Who knows what team is on Gibson's no trade list? he has a 10 team no trade list, but that means there's 21 other teams he could be traded to without consent,

A team like CBJ appear to be positioning themselves to try and rise and compete. You can see it in the moves they made by acquiring Provorov, Severson and the coach they've hired. CBJ has a lot to like: Scoring wingers, Big defense, Young talent, good captain with some grit and toughness. Good bottom six potential and a new potential franchise center.
- Can Merlinkins regain form? And does it matter if they can acquire Gibson?

The money works. Jake Bean could be the odd man out, Roslovic appears to be on the trade block.

Depending on the potential return, Ducks can maybe take Matt Murray's contract from the Leafs if they sweeten the deal with assets, maybe a nick robertson or some other winger.

I believe that Leo Carlsson will go back to the SHL at some point this season for another year of development.

ANA
  1. Bean, Jake
  2. Tarasov, Daniil
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (LAK)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Jake Bean is an odd man out on defense I think with their new additions

Could see some Roslovic or maybe merzlinkins come back but the compensation package with those two would look way different I think. Ducks still have a lot of room but the price would be high for them to use it.
CBJ
  1. Gibson, John
Additional Details:
Ducks don't have to commit to Bean long term, and can flip at the deadline if needed. Could be stopgap if they decide another year of development is helpful to their D prospects.

Verbeek is said to highly value Gibson, but i think with this scenario, the jackets can actually afford gibson's contract.
2.
ANA
  1. Murray, Matt
  2. Robertson, Nicholas
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Not sure if Robertson has a path to the NHL with the Leafs current roster. Maybe a change of scenery is in order. Ducks don't have enough decent Wing prospects. Not exactly the ducks style of player (under 6') but maybe they take a swing and see what happens
TOR
  1. Tracey, Brayden
Additional Details:
Change of scenery for a guy who was drafted in the same 1st round as zegras

There isn't a Gibson to Columbus scenario that could work without Elvis going the other way. I don't think they'll be moving on from Elvis though. One more year to prove if he has it is likely what he's going to get.

Thats actually a pretty solid deal for the Leafs. I remember being a big fan of Tracey back in 2019, wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot in Toronto. Murray to the Ducks seems like a bit of a foregone conclusion at this point IMO, the question now is the cost

I thought about merzlinkins, but I'd think that'd be a great 1A 1B combo that I think the jackets wouldn't mind trying. They've got some contracts that will come off the books and the young stars dont need to be paid for a while, which is about the time when the goalies would expire

Actually, the young guys need to start getting paid next year. Johnson, Marchenko, Sillinger, Texier, Chinakhov, Foudy, Bean, and Bemstrom are all up for extensions. I doubt at least a couple of those last 3 guys will still be in Columbus by then, but the first 5 are not going to come cheap altogether. Spending almost $12M on goalies going into next year would be a very big mistake.

My bad, thought I was responding to something else haha.

That doesn't help things. Rosie comes off the books before next summer anyway so that space is already on the books for the signings they need to make. Having Gibson and Elvis on the roster even affects the extensions of Fantilli and Jiricek, that's how bad and long that situation is.

John Gibson to Columbus is a very well imagined idea. Congratulations!

People may differ about the value of the package(s) or what they consist of, but this ACGM shows some really intelligent effort to think outside the box. I'm impressed.

Thanks! The more I thought about it, the more I liked it from a Columbus perspective. From a Ducks standpoint, I love Gibson but would love to see him happy as well. On paper, that is a very formidable CBJ team they would be assembling.
Gaudreau - Jenner - Marchenko
K. Johnson - Fantilli - Laine
Texier - Sillinger - Roslovic
Robinson - Kuraly - Olivier

Werenski - Severson
Provorov - Boqvist
Blankenburg - Gudbranson

Gibson/Merzlikins
