Kind of the idea here. This is obviously just for jokes, but in terms of getting the best chance to improve the roster to try and win today these moves do it, while locking down Miller long term and keeping Perrault.

is KAM really commanding that rich of a contract? from a non-ranger fan who admittedly didn’t watch much of them, he didn’t seem like a >5 mil D

Truthfully I’d rather trade him, but I’d rather pay him $6 mil long term now than $8-9 mil in 2 years. He put up 40 points pretty much with no powerplay time, unfortunately that costs a ton nowadays (just wish his defensive game would improve and he becomes more physical).

what would a rough package look like ideally but also realistically?

prospect + picks?
depth + picks?
1 for 1?

I think it’d have to be in a deal for another top 4 d man, maybe just one with a different play style. Personally I would love a Toews or Cernak or Slavin type d man, but those guys are critical and won’t be moved.

Rangers kind of in that amonte for noonan sort timeframe with the abundance of aging longterm contracts kicking around. Probably never be done, but a few guys added basically at their last battles three year window, might be better than waiting on kids that may not hit. Bottom out might be ugly, but all worth it if they could add a banner or two, so many strive for that near unattainable dynasty, now reserved for tax free states with beaches. All just a theory enjoyed the build.

Awful "rebuild" with no hope of cup last desperate attempt of something that will never be if we never learn. Keep adding these veterans to take lineup time and space got NYR in this mess. 👌 and we are continuing down that path here I see.

both these trades are a crazy overpay and would ruin the franchise for years to come. honestly I dont even see these trades as short term improvements, just moves to grab vets. Doing this would force us into a rebuild in 1-2 years with no prospects to start with.

I agree with most of the commentary above. Chris Drury is beginning to make Glen Sather look like a piker. Bring in talent at the trade deadline that you can't re-up and repeat the process for as long as possible. The Rangers are perpetually cash strapped as a result. When will they ever learn?

Rangers quickly and easily decline both deals as both are massive overpays. Vatrano half retained wouldn't cost either Othmann or a 1st round pick.

I mean that’s quite literally what they are doing with no end in sight. This entire post is satirical, but unfortunately is the way they actually operate in real life. If I’m being honest the first move I make is offload Panarin, Goodrow, Trouba and Trocheck via buyouts or retained salary trades. For the younger guys into bigger roles and see if they sink or swim. Chytil as 3C is pretty much useless as well as Laf never getting top 6 or powerplay time. This team was always flawed from construction cause they never bottomed out, the unfortunate reality of having Igor right after Hank.

Best part of your statement is you still having hope the franchise isn’t already ruined. What they should do is tear it down completely to the ground cause they aren’t winning a cup as presently constructed, but I love your optimism.

I think as of right now it's possible we win the cup but it would take Lavi rejuvenating Breadman to his prime playmaking days and Laf + Kakko taking big strides in their game. People said this exact same thing about Vegas last season and before that - about Tampa when they got swept. Success isn't usually linear, we have the talent it's just about putting everything together. Thinking we need to tear everything down now though is crazy doomerism lol, which knowing this fanbase is its specialty.

Yeah it is sad. How many picks they had and it really doesn't amount to much of anything at all. Panarin was a mistake. I wasn't crazy happy about the Trouba trade. And they got nothing for Buch. I'm still not over that one unsure

I'm on board with all of that! Fire up the torpedo tubes.

TUBE # 1 - The Panarin contract is so bad, we are stuck with him unless we threaten relegating him to Hartford to give him some incentive. Via trade or we're stuck with him

TUBE # 2 - Trouba via buyout. It will be well worth it in the long run. You can move Schneider into the RD2 lot.

TUBE #3 - Goodrow via buyout as well. Unless Anaheim is looking for some CAP fill to meet the CAP floor. You can throw in a couple of puck bags.

TUBE # 4 - Trocheck. He wasn't on my immediate launch list, but I get it! Anymore DEAD CAP space begins to be counterproductive. Via trade is the way to go.

The Buch trade hurts my soul too! Just when he was arriving, they dumped him. Shades of Tony Amonte.

If by "all in" you mean the Rangers should be all in on being a painfully mediocre team for the foreseeable future, then yes, these trades make sense
