Yeah, Nylander reportedly seeking north of $9M/8 will sign for $6M/5 for sure. Like you are less than 40% of his ask. And you're still not cap compliant.

Nylander is 27, currently making 7milion, and has been positively progressing every single season, to the point where he's over a point per game... with the cap going up, why on earth would he accept a 1million dollar pay cut over 5 years?

I think the point the OP is trying to make is that realistically, Colorado can't afford him and so they won't be giving up a future piece in Byram for him or even Devon Toews who could probably be squeezed in.

This is exactly why the Avs can’t sign Nylander. You’re about $3M short on his cap hit. And then you basically give up on re-signing Toews.

Realistically, if you sign someone to a big contract in summer 2024 and Landeskog returns, you need to ship out a player. If you sign Toews, it probably becomes Girard or Manson. If you sign Nylander, who are you giving up?

Not to mention the following summer when Rantanen and Byram are due new contracts.

that's the opposite of what OP is trying to make. Read the description.

I've made that point repeatedly if you want to point fingers and you've just proven it for me. Avs basically don't have the same team. Not sure if you intended sarcasm or not but either way you proved my point. Cheers!

I did read, the description but thought he was being sarcastic 😂, but maybe you have more insight on the "incident" that he's referring to.

I thought the point was basically to prove that they can't afford Nylander since people insist on trading him to Colorado. Reason why I think it is sarcasm, is because he made no mention of a trade and the Timmins trade seems to have the sole purpose of getting the attention of Leafs fans (maybe he's a Timmins fan?) He probably could have put some details about how they "acquired" Nylander since he did care to put future considerations.
