Willy is not signing in Calgary there is no trade here. And no it's not his home town. He's from Sweden, being born in Calgary and leaving there before he had any memories doesn't mean anything

It's not likely that we even trade Willy in the first place but It's just a hypothetical of what could happen between Calgary and Toronto if a deal should take place.

I'm wondering if the leafs are going to split up Marner and Matthews. The reason is who else is in the top 6 are known for their playing a real good 2-way game. JT is to slow. Bert, Domi and willie are not known for getting back. Knies is a rookie. Just wonder if anyone else thinks it could be a big issue defensively the 2nd line?

Avs accept I think. Not sure I love the extra cap hit but Beaucage has no value

Avs totally accept. A decent 3rd liner, not too expensive (and probably close to what we spend on a ufa for that spot), and traded for a prospect that we can easily replace!

Agreed - I'd also be interested in bringing Timmins back if the leafs want to move him anyway. Combining the first 2 trades to be Beaucage + 4th (or even 3rd) for Lafferty + Timmins would be nice for the Avs imo

Lafferty is solid in the bottom six but is a player that we can replace for cheap + we need to get his cap off the books. Taking a B list prospect is similar to what we did with the Johnsson/Anderson trade with NJ in order to offload his cap hit.

Timmins really flourished here in Toronto with the proper icetime its a shame we don't have room for him but he should be traded to a place where he has an opportunity to crack a fulltime NHL lineup.

I feel like gaining prospects in return for Nylander does help the team in the long run and brings in more value than Hanifin does as a slightly above average defender to fill in the second pairing. Nylander holds much more value in that trade even if the return is Hanifin + Backlund.

You're not getting that much for Willy lol.
Best temper your expectations now. Toronto is at a point of weakness, every team knows they cant afford him.

The way I see it is that Willy will get more than Alex Debrincat did but less than Meier. Toronto can afford Willy after next year with several contract expiring, the cap increasing and potentially moving a few pricy pieces in the bottom six. The question is whether they'll overpay him grossly to stay or move him. The negotiations between Willy and the Leafs have gone nowhere because Willy refuses to accept that he isn't worth anywhere near 10 Million. I think this is a fair deal for Nylander should the leafs decide to deal him.
