This is a joke right? You want Pesce from Carolina for retaining a million? This needs to be 75% retention on EK. This is absolutely comical

Isn’t it a bad idea to put a young goalie on a one way deal in front of a very bad defensive team? Pyotr has one waiver exempt year left but that sounds like a developmental disaster.

Might be something here if the player from the canes wasn’t PK

Read the synopsis please. Carolina is getting EK at $6M/year, so 50%-ish retained. Det is basically trading an NHL D (who I know you don't like) a B+ F prospect, a 2nd and a 4th to San Jose for Pesce, who they don't need and prob don't want to pay while they're rebuilding. Det is getting a 4th from CH for the $1M retention for 4 years, which is probably low tbh.

TBH that part of the trade wasn't my idea, I saw it on the internets earlier today but I can't find it again to cite it. Steep for sure but you get a 2x Norris trophy winner to run your PP for 4 years at $6M.

Doesn’t make sense for CAR to include Kooch in that deal. At that retention the value is probably in the ballpark but I think you swap Kooch with a lesser prospect - somebody like Drury makes a lot of sense.

We gave you Alex. If that didn't work out, no second chances. This also assumes Detroit is on Pesce's trade list.

3x Norris Winner, but he's got one leg and is signed until he's 36 and his cap hit is still what 6.5. Unless it's less than 3, Carolina are not moving this kind of package

3x yes, good point. You're on the ball for 6am. Here's the thing, if the rumors are true CH is battling Pitt for Karlsson. It's a win-now move and Pitt's core is old af so their window to win is now. Carolina obv isn't AS old but as you know they are really good and maybe a move like this gets them another cup.

That said, the package to get EK is going to be super expensive. I personally think trading PK is a bad idea, but like I said that's something I read. BUT, trading a good NHLer, a prospect, a 1st, 2 2nds and a 4th is not unreasonable for a 50% retained EK. To get him at 75% retained for 4 years, best guess is you're losing another 2nd at minimum, possibly a 1st. You figure most times team retain $1M for 1 year they get a 4th, so extrapolate from there if you're having a team retain $3-4M for 4 years. That's a huge ask in a flat cap.
