Chicago rebuild is over. Team has been bad for 6 straight years and with Bedard now there they will look to quickly turn it around. Giving up a 1 2nd round pick to get a former 3rd round pick in Jones who is offensive and NHL, plus Goodrow, a team first guy with 2 cups, is not really a big ask. Chicago still have 5 1st round picks and 8 2nd round picks the next 3 drafts - they will use the picks to accelerate the rebuild for teams looking to dump stars and or role players especially since they have cap flexibility.
More on trading picks to accelerate the rebuild - I wanted the Rangers to stay full rebuild and use Laf, Kakko, Chytil on the top 6 but that did not happen. High picks the Rangers traded include a 1st and 2nd for Copp, 2 2nds for Fox (even though they could have waited a season and signed him as a UFA), 2 2nds to clear Nemeth salary, 2nd for Kane, 1st for Tarasenko...so those moves are 2 1st and 6 2nds - and there were other trades involving other picks. I do not think Chicago will go that extreme but they will try to right the ship a lot faster than some may think to taste the playoffs.
