Leafs Changes

Created by: JL34
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2023
Published: Jul. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Signings:
Sammy gets comparable contracts to Hart, Ned, Vanecek, Geogriev
Kirvivanta bottom six depth signing and penalty kill aid
Elliott uses old spezza threat to retire if he needs to pass waivers
Mason Shaw starts season on IR but when healthy can give energy, pk aid in bottom six

Buy out:
Most logical option is buyout out after second window with settled arb case...Can not see this contract as tradeable with every team counting dollars...penalty will hurt next year

Trades:
Jarnkrok for Middleton (Secondary scoring for Treliving's long D)
Peeke (w/ retention) for Robertson, Timmins and pick...odd man out for peeke and retention is expensive

Brodie dump ( unfortunate but needed, more details below)

Brodie owned 7.5M in actual cash, potentially another team but can not see return high due to money reasons...Brodie still a great D man and will be a good flip at deadline for contending team if retention is offered.

I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM, without hesitation.

Brodie is the Leafs best defensive defenseman. Dumping him is idiotic

Brodie has a modified NTC which he can choose 10 teams he cant be traded to... How much you wanna bet he calls on his new teammate Klingberg and Klingberg tells him ge wished he never went there and took less money somewhere else on a good team to now have a long term deal this year...

You can expect teams like
Arizona
Anaheim
Chicago
Philly
and perhaps even teams like San Jose and Columbus to be on the No trade list. If hes going to choose to be moved, hes going to make sure its not career suicide. youd have to get alot more creative if you plan on moving a TJ Brodie. And would need to replace him with someone as good or better for cheaper and you havent done that. IMO

I don't why Leafs fans hate this obsession for Peeke. Brodie....highly unlikely that any team with cap, especially a non playoff team would be on his trade list.

Peeke has 3 years left, so I highly doubt you're getting any retention from CBJ. They're gonna need that cap next offseason and the year after.
