No attitude issues. Probably just asking for too much

He is a solid all around defenseman.

No, he doesn't have attitude issues. On the contrary, he's a lockerroom leader. His absence from Minnesota's roster, along with Reaves, left Guerin so worried about that hole he traded for Maroon to fill it.

He's fallen off offensively since his injury from his fight with Matt Tkachuk destroyed any chance of becoming the original Norris caliber talent he was growing into. But he's adapted to stay in the NHL since then. Growing his defensive game, which was initially a black hole, to solidifying it and becoming a strength. He's decent defensively, and can still move the puck out and up the ice really well, he just doesn't score much. He's combined that with a physical, gritty, on the edge type of playstyle that many teams could use.

The reason he's not signed is the same reason why Patrick Kane, Vladimir Tarasenko, and many other high profile players haven't signed yet either.

Cap space is exceedingly tight, and the teams most in need of his services are the ones who can't afford him. It's not difficult to piece out why he's not signed yet.

I doubt it.

The teams in most in need of him, are the same teams that can't afford him.

He's worth his $5M price tag. And there's not too many teams that can afford that right now that aren't rebuilding.

Sounds like he's asking too much for the market.

Dumba will be the consolation prize for a team that loses out on the EK sweepstakes. Kane and Tank are still on the market too. I'm expecting more buyouts from teams in their arbitration buyout window so overall it's a strange UFA offseason.

If asking for what he's worth is too much, than half the league is too.

My best guess is that it’s been the perfect storm of it being a bad year to become a UFA in general given most team’s cap situations, he may have waited too long to commit to a team and they chose to cut him out of their plans for other players more willing to sign early on and the fact that he has the reputation of more of an offensive Dman (that’s not really his game anymore) and the points weren’t there at all this year which makes him a less appealing FA

I don’t think it should be or is too much of a worry on his end tho

That's what I was thinking too. He's probably stuck in limbo while the possibility of an EK trade works itself out. I forget who it was, Chris Johnston maybe, but they said Arizona had interest so guessing that's his fallback plan if he can't land on a contender.
