Coots should be back, Ellis is toast, and we shouldn't trade Tippett for a 1st in a subpar draft. We just shouldn't trade Tippett.

As much as i liked Hart’s first 2 years,
his last THREE have been pretty bad- which is really the only reason you guys would trade him

I don’t see the Sabres offering a 1st for him
VERY unlikely

1st, 2nd and 3rd. Tippet has had 1 good year. I would sell high on him. Which they are doing here. He could also be a very nice add for Edmonton this year.

and thanks on the Couturier and Ellis info smile

I'd rather keep Tip and bet on him growing then sending away another high-potential player for a few picks in three different years.

Fair enough! What did you think of the other trades? I personally think they work for all teams involved.

I don't think there's a chance in hell Sharter Fart is worth that return... that return should get Helleboy

Tk to isles is ok, I talked myself into believing that TK is more elite than we give him credit for. Value is fair but i want more quality (dont care about a 2026 3rd). say not top 10 protected and a 2024 2nd instead of 2025. still not sure its a great idea to trade TK if he want to resign though.

Same with the tippett deal. Value is proably good but we want to be good in 3 years when Michkov hopefully comes over, a 2026 2nd rounder does nothing for me (because its gonna take another 3 years before the kid is ready)

The Buffalo deal i think is pretty good. however its kind of the same thing as mentioned above, the return will most likely never be as good as Hart. However we have depth and good prospects so the deal is fine by me. Dont think the flyers would do it because its not "blowing Briere away"

The Toronto deal is pretty bad imo. Seeler is a very good defensive defenseman and i think match the value on Timmins (as a third pair guy any team should prefer seeler imo) Laughton for a first and Robertson is fine but flyers are probably looking for more than that and sumping Murray will cost more than a 2026 3rd

All deals are good in terms of value but i dont think the flyers will be better in three years compairing to if we keep everything

The Toronto deal is bad but I’m not shocked cause ur a Toronto fan. The other deals are decent value but I don’t see Briere moving anyone at “decent” value when he has no need to move them immediately he can just wait til an offer blows him away. They also aren’t trading Tippett.

The Tippett deal is simply too rich, especially considering his one good year still doesn't match Foegele's 5v5 production.

Foegele v Tippett

He's younger and has more potential, but Edmonton is in win now mode, they aren't going to trade 3 high picks for an immediate downgrade and hope that the player lives up to the cost of acquisition.

Selling high on a 24 year old player who just broke out though? Unless the trade is mind blowing, why move him out for three more lottery tickets? The rationale just doesn't make sense to me for that.

If you think any GM wouldn't trade a guy like Foegele, who grow on trees, for a guy who may have 30+ goal potential at only 24 years, you're crazy. He has a first round pedigree and was finally given a chance last year to play top line minutes. Potential is very valuable in this league and you have to be kidding yourself if you don't think GMs would trade Foegele ++ for a player like Tippett.

I think they're pretty fine. Not sure Buffalo would trade for a goalie since they have Levi nearing NHL ready.

You're really using draft pedigree for a 24 year old? Jesse Puljujarvi has 1st round pedigree too you know. And I justified my comments already - Tippett didn't match Foegele's 5v5 production despite playing with superior linemates last season. He's less than 3 years younger, so there's certainly some potential there that Foegele doesn't have, but at this point I feel like those assets (1st + 2nd + 3rd) can be better utilized to improve the Oilers roster, rather than potentially downgrading it.

Has JP ever hit 27 goals before? Has he ever had a season where he took the next step? The comparison is weak and so is the argument. Any GM would trade those assets for a guy like Tippett, and if you don't, that's fine, it's your opinion. But how often do 2nd and 3rd round picks even play 100 games in the NHL, much less show the type of potential and growth Tippett has over the last season and a half?

How you still think swapping Foegele for Tippett is "downgrading" your roster is beyond me. Is it that your overly biased or you just don't understand the perceived value vs actuals at this point? From either perspective, Tip is the better player, asset, and value.

I literally posted a link to their stats. How you can't read a simple spreadsheet is beyond me.

And you COMPLETELY missed my point about the picks. Honestly, if you aren't going to bother reading the comment, why reply?

Cause it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme, picks are meaningless when acquiring what I've descrived Tip is. How am I missing your point, this is what you said:

"but at this point I feel like those assets (1st + 2nd + 3rd) can be better utilized to improve the Oilers roster, rather than potentially downgrading it."

How is that not saying you feel the 3 picks are better utilized holding on to them, than trading them away, which would potentially downgrade it? What am I missing, please tell me?

Also, your graph means nothing to me, 5v5, albeit a great stat sometimes, isn't for guys like Foegele who don't have the ice time compared to guys like Tippett. When you're playing 13 mins a game against bottom 6ers compared to playing 17+ minutes against top 6 guys, there is more room for your 5v5 numbers to go down, especially when you're not on a strong team.

You really wanna use this graph and compare a Flyers player over the last 3 years to an Oiler over the last 3 years??? It's comparing apples and elephants brotha, not even worth mentioning. Next time, I will include that so you know I'm ignoring it.

The picks can be better utilized by using them as trade to improve the roster, rather than using them to acquire a player who hasn't proven to be better then the one he's replacing.

Tippett had better linemates than Foegele. Foegele was a big part of the reason Edmonton had such good scoring depth, his IPP indicates that he was driving play, not just lucky to be on a good team.

We certainly saw how much picks were used to improve rosters this offseason so far, and at the draft, which is not as much as you'd think. Sure, this draft was one that was considered loaded, but still, you're not gonna get better value using them as add-ons to a trade than with acquiring a young, rising player. Is a 3rd round pick gonna be a dealbreaker or get you a gamebreaker? Probably not.

I agree Tippett had better linemates, but being apart of a better team also plays dividends. You have to think that a bottom 6 guy coming onto the ice after their teammates just hemmed in a team in their d zone for 45 seconds doesn't show in his 5v5 results. Same as Tippett where, on a very bad team since he's joined, gets on the ice after their bottom 6 couldn't get out of there own zone. if you watched the Flyers like I did, you would understand the reason for these stats,
