A different Offensive RHD option

Created by: Dink32788
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 19, 2023
Published: Jul. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A cheaper route for an offensive RHD. Barrie obviously isn’t Karlsson, but the extra $$ could open up some options for a top 6 winger to move rust down into a 3rd line wing spot that might be a better fit. Not sure if terry is available, but something like that. Younger skilled winger. The expiring $$ from barrie plus petry only having 1 year left next offseason (makes that $$ easier to move) which will open up some $$ for Guentzel extension. Also put carter on LTIR hopefully Dubas figures out a way to ship him out. Also I’m aware it’s over the cap, but they were before as well so idk what else dubas has planned.

Barrie offers nothing of value with Petry and Letang already better RD that are strong offensively. Verbeek probably has no interest in trading Terry so a massive overpayment far beyond this would be required.

If Troy Terry would sign that contract, he would already have it in Anaheim

That is the cost to dump Granlund, nowhere near enough to add Terry to the deal

I know you touched on it in the description - but even if we assume these trades get accepted(very debatable), this team is even in a worse cap spot than they are now. I'm not sure what the plan would be here for opening day cap compliance.

I like the creativity - as I'm a bit tired of Karlsson trades at this point haha - just don't see how this would work. Plus Barrie isn't an upgrade like Karlsson is - so I don't think the Pens would even want this trade. Sure he's better than Rutta - but given the cap situation I don't think they can bring on a 4.5mil 3rd pair dman

P.S. Barrie on the top pair? You woke up this morning and chose violence lol

I think Nashville is open to moving off Barrie, and a low 2nd / high 3rd is likely all that is needed to get him.
Rutta could act as a 7th D with his Cap hit, not ideal as it takes a spot away from the young guys coming up, but maybe.
DeSmith wouldn't see any ice in Nashville unless they were hit by a lot of injuries. Honestly I think Dubas shipping him elsewhere makes more sense.

You could take the Granlund cap dump out and it still isnt close to Terry

That contract shows you dont know how much value Terry actually has

Did you mean to pick somebody else from ducks? Terry value plus the cost to dump granlund is much much more than what you’ve offered.

If Troy Terry would be your #1 RW and you would sign him for 7 seasons, why would you think that that package would be enough for him?

Take the fourth out and it gets you Max Jones or Brock McGinn.
