500k retention so it evens out... nice math

    Debrusk: 4m
    JGP: 5m

    Retention: .5m

    5m - .5m = 4.5m
    4.5m > 4m

So Boston is taking on .5m extra, which they can't afford. Look, I even showed my work! Math is indeed very nice.

Lol what? JGP is $5m and DeBrusk is $4m

Therefore boston gets JGP at $4.5m and Salo taking on more cap lol

$4.5m is greater than $4m. Simple math

Also you avoided all of my analytical points. Anyways Boston is gonna need to take on a center someone, and its not like u can sign players for sub 500k.

you need centers.. bad. Debrusk is bound for regression too. only had 23.3 expected goals, pageau had 18.7. Not a big difference

BOS needs (preferably young) top six centers, yes. Not more 3C's.

BOS has no need for JPG or Salo, and the value is not close anyway.

You’re getting all offended when you have so much belief that Pageau is better yet you’re getting rid of him

Dude compare the two players on https://www.naturalstattrick.com/ and you’ll see they’re pretty similar in terms of production. If not, then I’m done arguing because it doesn’t matter

Since @Rags21 is the one who made the original point about making the cap work, I think he gets to determine what he meant by his own words.

This is 100% true, but there is no rush. Boston needs to solve their center problem eventually, but they realistically have a couple of years to sort it out before the fans get restless and the GM is canned. If they are bad this year, then so be it. If Bergeron comes back for another year, then they will be less bad for this year, but the problem still remains going forward. I just don't think Pageau helps them solve their problem at all.

I use evolving hockey, which is by far the most accurate advanced analytics website out there. It has the most variables.

And Pageau is NOT as good as Debrusk. BUT, he is a center and they have more value. Plus he has an extra year. Pageau would be the 2nd best center on the bruins roster. Your argument makes zero sense. Im not high on Pageau, im realistic. Pageau is slightly worse than Debrusk in terms of production. So, Debrusk would be an upgrade since one of our centers will be forced to play wing, its worth it for us to do this.

Thats fine if you dont think it helps the problem, but he definitely would be their 2nd best center on roster, right as a 1B to Zacha (who screams regression)

And like the Boston fans above me said, trading DeBrusk for Pageau doesn’t move the needle. They probably would rather get a legit 1/2C

    A. Debrusk isnt worth that
    B. Which 1/2C is available right now? I guess packaging Debrusk+First+Lohrei could get someone like that, but who? From what ive seen, theyd need to be young too, which makes this even harder

Yeah, he would be one of their top 2 centers for sure. But the Bruins window seems to be closed now, so they should save their assets for a better opportunity or for restocking their prospect pool. If you see that the Bruins made any trade of a player in their low-to-mid-20s for a player in their 30s, you can enjoy knowing that I am off somewhere being upset about it.

    I didn’t say just DeBrusk, but i don’t know that’s Boston’s problem

Backlund, Lindholm, Scheifele all at 50% retained. Probably open to extension

Backlund is feasible, Lindholm would cost too much and so would schiefele. But all three of these guys would require Debrusk+First++ with retention

Of those, I'd only really want the Bruins to give up assets for Lindholm. The other guys don't fit the Bruins timeline for being truly competitive again (I'd say they have at minimum 2 down years), so they don't have as much value to the Bruins as they would to a team who is contending now.

You also can’t rule out Bergeron or Krejci on cheap contracts

Besides if Montgomery deploys a good system, Boston will be fine

Lee is a winger and Morgan Geekie is a center. Is he more valuable because he plays center? No, the winger in this case still provides more overall value.

Speaking of Evolving-Hockey, let's use last season's stats for these two:
    -Pageau: 1.7 GAR, 0.3 WAR, 0.5 SPAR, 3 xGAR, 0.5 xWAR, 1 xSPAR, $0.7M value
    -Coyle: 5.2 GAR, 0.9 WAR, 1.7 SPAR, 6 xGAR, 1 xWAR, 1.9 xSPAR, $3.7M value

Pageau is a 3C just like Coyle. You can debate which one is better, but they're pretty much the same thing. Second, Bruins need a top6 C. Acquiring Pageau doesn't really move the needle and it's not because there aren't many options that they should opt for Pageau.

Pageau is regressing, is 31yo in November, has a $5M cap hit and 16-team no trade list. This is already a questionable contract/player to acquire for the average team looking for a 3C. Now, you want the Bruins who needs a top6 C to trade for him? This isn't even to consider they're most likely not a Cup contender anymore so they're potentially wasting an asset for someone who barely "improves" the team and will likely to not be worth his cap hit??

Acquiring Pageau makes zero sense for the Bruins.

Pageau had 3 5v5 goals the entire season. Good player, but he’s a slightly above average 3C on a bad contract

Give me a projected forward group for the Bruins if they make that trade. Do you see any flaw with your logic yet? You're not playing 4D chess here against the rest of us. One of your comments claimed JGP=2nd, waiver wire bait Salo=4th/5th and DeBrusk isn't worth more than that. Even if DeBrusk=2nd+4th/5th, your value for the proposed players is incredibly wrong. Isles wouldn't get a 2nd for Pageau from anyone. Taylor Hall only netted two fringe d-men prospects. Do better.

If we trade Joe Veleno, he will be in a deal for a bigger fish. Not trading him for picks only. And his value is more than a lousy 4th round pick.

Why are you disputing he’s a 3C? You literally agreed by saying he’s in the 60-70 range for centers which would make him a high end 3C even by your estimation. I think most ppl on here agree that he’s a very good 3C but he’s slightly overpaid for that role which doesn’t make him a bad player but with a flat cap and taking into account Boston’s needs and their own cap situation it doesn’t make any sense.

Their reasoning was he was the islanders 3C. Hes 56 on my list actually, a low end 2c. I just put 60-70 off the top of my head.

    Hes in the Paul/Domi/Trochek/Johannsen range.

Go out and rank every center in the NHL right now and youll see hes in that range too

PLUS Pageau has much better analytics over the past 3 years in the two stats he used, plus has produced more on less time. IDK how this is even a debate.

Pageau is getting paid market value and there are very few centers available. Im not saying he gets a 1st+++, just a 20-25 goal scorer lol.

Duclair got what? A 5th? Hes a similar player on a better deal and got THAT.
