I use evolving hockey, which is by far the most accurate advanced analytics website out there. It has the most variables.
And Pageau is NOT as good as Debrusk. BUT, he is a center and they have more value. Plus he has an extra year. Pageau would be the 2nd best center on the bruins roster. Your argument makes zero sense. Im not high on Pageau, im realistic. Pageau is slightly worse than Debrusk in terms of production. So, Debrusk would be an upgrade since one of our centers will be forced to play wing, its worth it for us to do this.
Lee is a winger and Morgan Geekie is a center. Is he more valuable because he plays center? No, the winger in this case still provides more overall value.
Speaking of Evolving-Hockey, let's use last season's stats for these two:
-Pageau: 1.7 GAR, 0.3 WAR, 0.5 SPAR, 3 xGAR, 0.5 xWAR, 1 xSPAR, $0.7M value
-Coyle: 5.2 GAR, 0.9 WAR, 1.7 SPAR, 6 xGAR, 1 xWAR, 1.9 xSPAR, $3.7M value
Pageau is a 3C just like Coyle. You can debate which one is better, but they're pretty much the same thing. Second, Bruins need a top6 C. Acquiring Pageau doesn't really move the needle and it's not because there aren't many options that they should opt for Pageau.
Pageau is regressing, is 31yo in November, has a $5M cap hit and 16-team no trade list. This is already a questionable contract/player to acquire for the average team looking for a 3C. Now, you want the Bruins who needs a top6 C to trade for him? This isn't even to consider they're most likely not a Cup contender anymore so they're potentially wasting an asset for someone who barely "improves" the team and will likely to not be worth his cap hit??
Acquiring Pageau makes zero sense for the Bruins.
