No part of that trade entices the Hawks to retain on EK's contract.

2 picks to retain less than 2 mill for a single season, in a year where the team is complete and total doggy doo. Why the objection? Are you planning on NOT selling that cap space? You would prefer to use it in no way whatsoever?

Asking Chicago to retain salary, as well as take on Jeff Carter might need to have more sweetener involved. Throw in POJ and make the 7th a 4th as well might do it.

That would cover MAYBE a year or 2 of the EK retention but not even close on 4 years (much less the original proposal). Getting someone to eat Carter for you is at the very least a 3rd and more likely sniffing a 2nd. The retention on EK for 4 years for that much will easily be double the cost of Carter and approaching triple.

The whole going to trade for EK and have multiple teams retain 5 million for 4 years is ludicrous when you are dealing with a pretty mediocre prospect pool. EK retained this much will cost 3 if not 4 premium assets and the original proposal offers one....the 1st round pick.

Ya, that’s not how retention works, the Hawks would be retaining 20% off Karlsson for 4 years; so $2.3m per year. Plus don’t forget they are tying up one of their three retention spots for the next four seasons. On top of that you want them to take Jeff Carter’s $3m + for next season.

In order for the Hawks to accept that “opportunity” the offer would have to include a 1st round pick for Karlsson and a 2nd or qualitynprospect for Carter.

If that is acceptable for the Penguins the Hawks can use their cap space “helping” other cap strapped teams for a much better return then you are offering.

Chicago declines and smashes the phone so Pittsburgh can't call them anymore.

That cap space is more valuable that the trash being offered in this proposal. Seems all of us Hawks fans are in agreement but yall think because this team isn't contending this year that we'll help every cash strapped team. It costs to move cap space.

20% retention on Karlsson is $2.3m and he has 4 years left on his contract, not 1. That offer is hilariously bad.
