Yeah laine played center last year for a few games before he got injured. And apparently he’s working with kuraly and Jenner in Columbus on face offs. He looked engaged more in the dzone and I didn’t hate him in that role.

33 W and 70 L in the faceoff circle in 4 seasons in WPG
47 W and 94 L in the faceoff circle in 3 season in CBJ

Gallagher learned to take Draws from Plekanec and Danault over the years.
98 W and 150L in the Faceoff Circle in BG first 3 seasons in MTL

Does that make the 11 year Winger suddenly a Center?
No , no one who gets hockey would argue that averaging less then 200-300 faceoffs is a Center.
Gally had more in a single season then Laine in 4 seasons and no where on any site anywhere is he listed as a Center.
I mean whats next ? our LD in Laval played 2 games as 4th line Center due to injuries, let me guess , he's a Center now too?

I mean, we've been so desperate for a top center that I'd entertain anything. He looked fine there last season.

My major concern is it opens up a massive hole at 2RW, especially when we're going to have at least two top-6 centers in a year or two with Sillinger, Fantilli, and Jenner. Try it, but don't commit to it if it's not working.

I would say he has just started his face off training this summer but more importantly, his defensive game is vastly improved in that spot. And the reason we are discussing this is because it actually went well. If he can get is face offs up to around 45-48% while that we’ll defensively, he could be in a conversation to stick at that position.
Idk why it sounds like you’re upset at this idea. The comment about the left defender playing center is kinda dumb as it was out of injury issues. This was a genuine experiment. We could have recalled sillinger to take that spot but we wanted to see what he could do and it went better than anyone could have thought.

I am NOT saying he will work out long term or can do it at all but in a small sample size last year he did well in that role considering he had no prior experience. I have read that babs intends to try that out in the preseason. (I believe portzline had it)

Introducing yegor chinakhov!
If he sticks at center that gives chinakhov a shot to play legit top 6 minutes. He looked good in his showings last year. I’m excited to see what he can do this year.

The other option is Roslovic. We already know he and Laine work very well together. Could be interesting to see what happens with Laine as his center.

That is my concern too you would need that winger there to fill the roll as Roslovic wouldn't be the guy but there are many wingers you could get cheap on the market as there isn't a shortage of them. Not something I would put all my eggs into as I am convinced we are more likely to see KJ at center than Laine and I rather see him as a LW.

Roslo is interesting. But could that also open up and opportunity for TFW? He scored 70 points at Cleveland last season. He has some skill but really hasn’t had the opportunity to play higher in the line up. Regardless, Laine at C if he can stick there, opens up so many possibilities.

Foudy, Chinakhov, Texier, Voronkov, and McKown at the very least get reps there before TFW does.
