A Much Simpler Jets-Canes Trade

Created by: Hockyluv21
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2023
Published: Jul. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The reason to do this trade: Teravainen is better in a top-6 role, which Winnipeg needs, but Niederreiter is great on the third line, which the Canes need. Because the Canes are sending some salary, a 7th rounder is sent to Winnipeg.

Keep the pick! That pick has less than 5% chance of making the NHL.

Can't believe Teravainen would have Jets on his 10 team trade list.

I love Nino... Teravainen is hands down the better player. Both are rentals, and I get Teuvo's cap hit is 1.4 million higher, but he's also a 60+ point player, where Nino has career highs in the 50s... Nino and Teuvo are also comparable defensively and Teuvo is several years younger. Winnipeg should be adding, not Carolina

Nah, Nino was very clear how much he likes Winnipeg. We should not get rid of him, he is likely to re-sign here.

Maybe if you ignore the last two seasons. Over the last three years Nino has way outproduced Teuvo at 5v5 and his defensive metrics are vastly superior. Teravainen has not been the same since 2021. Two straight well below average seasons for him.

Here's the problem I'm thinking about, though: is Brind'Amour willing to play Turbo with Staal and Fast rather than Martinook in order to boost the 3rd line's offense? We all know how great Nino-Staal-Fast is as a unit, and he'd likely play the lines that way if given a choice.

Not really that interested in bringing back Nino. He was good but now he's gone.

65 points in 77 games the season before last, and he still produced at a half a point per game rate last season despite fighting injuries. He outproduces Nino quite easily. The year he only played 21 games, he still had 15 points and that was the 56 game season. Teuvo is still streets clear of Nino, and I love Nino

Or... you could put Bunting with Staal and Fast since he's a lot more like Martinook than Teuvo is... then put Teuvo, the guy that has 70+ point upside we all know and love into the top six.

33 points on the PP. His ES play has not return to his career standards since his absence in 2021. Most NHL front offices will IMMEDIATELY recognize that issue just as any many fans have. If he were fully healthy I would definitely take Teravainen. Now? No chance I would gamble on him over Nino on a one year cheaper deal.

They are, but my point is if he says he loves everywhere he goes, it doesn't mean much

Fair point, but he may have really liked those places. Him leaving was probably not by choice though. Therefore, if he loves Winnipeg and Winnipeg loves him, maybe he re-signs.
