Not a big fan of getting an 8th LD prospect looking for NHL ice time.

Value is probably fair, it's just that Brannstrom is a terrible fit organizationally for what the Hawks would want. One of Ostapchuk or Jarventine would be more compelling, and make no mistake that for the Hawks to take Joseph, there will need to be something that is compelling.

Hawks decline. Brannstrom doesn't hold that kind of value to the Hawks with all the young LD they already have.

Hawks decline, Katchouk was as productive as Joseph last season at 1/4 the cost. As a previous poster mentioned, Brannstrom is redundant for Chicago and moving from a 6th round pick to a 4th round pick doesn’t bridge the gap enough for taking on the increased cap hit for the next three seasons.

Would Brannstrom not immediately become your best LD? And probably stays that way until Korchinski gets there. I get he isn't what sens fans expected but he is so far from a bust. I guarantee you he is a Top 4 Dman in this league on like half of the teams, I really don't want to lose him but we have no choice now with the Tarasenko signing, and Kleven looks ready for that 3LD spot in Ottawa.

I am sure OTT would fork over Jarventie or Thomson or Ostapchuk instead but apart from maybe Ostapchuk, Brannstrom is the best player with the best future.

Is Branny better than Tinordi? Sure, no question. But better than Vlasic, Phillips or Kaiser? Can't make that claim until those 3 get actual NHL ice time this season. Longer term, Hawks top 4 LD will most likely be Korchinski and DelMastro, who looks like a stud and an absolute steal in the 4th round. Not knocking Branny, but he's just another good player at a position of strength for the Hawks. Branny would have much more value in a trade to a team actually looking for a LD.

It’s not just Korchinski, the Hawks have Vlasic, Philips, Roos and Kaiser who could be ready to make the jump to the NHL this season. On top of that, they have Del Mastro and Allan moving to the AHL this season and may not be far behind… they are all left handed D.

Very debatable for sure. I don't want to disrespect another team's prospects as I'm sure you're not trying to disrespect ours. Vlasic/Phillips should be nearly automatics for NHL ice time, IMO. They've progressed nicely at each level. The "Vegas Style" Dman...size and control the defensive zone is the style of play I'd like to have for the Hawks. Now is the time to let your prospects either sink/swim. At some point they deserve a chance to play and prove themselves. Rotating in Rockford (with likely 1 up with the Hawks for regular cups of coffee) Kaiser/Del Mastro/Roos...If Allan stays, he'd get rotated as well.

Brannstrom at 23 has had an interesting career. Every player develops at their own pace and I wish him success wherever he goes. I think acquiring a LD prospect right now is not a good idea. Sends a terrible message to our existing 7 LD prospects looking for NHL ice time. Even to the prospects in Rockford/Juniors. You want to be an organization that awards hard work/commitment and provides opportunity. ESPECIALLY, when you're not a contender that's just 1-2 pieces away. You start bringing in outside help for a position that's already WAY over saturated and giving ice time to Brann vs your own players that have earned it...just not a good thing to do IMO.

Is Brännström the "prospect" you're talking about?

The 23 y/o has 190 NHL games, 24 pts per 82 games since 2020-21 (when he was 21 y/o) and was Top-30 in metrics last season. He's rising fast and would be the hawks 3rd best D-man at worst

Easy, keep him. Problem solved.

Out of curiosity, what would you give for Brannstrom?

The 1st comment was not directed to you but more a general observation that has been going on for years on CF. It was the case on Sens forums but now most understand that he has become quality

What do you mean "what would you give for Brannstrom?

You meant what I would want? I'd be looking for a similar young 2-way forward. Fill a position of need (middle-six) from a position of strength (LHD)
