His defense is actually very good with a routine d-partner. He was assigned every 7th d-man in our system as his d-partner last year. 2 years ago he led the league in shots blocked for a little while.
He alone is worth the 1st + a little something, Retaining on him for 3 years would cost another 1st because it's completely unnecessary. Thrun would not be involved at all.

This is trash for the sharks

Ferraro is probably worth closer to a 2nd right now, but Thrun+Ferraro+retention is worth way more than this offer.

Kane would probably rather withdraw 700k from the bank and light it on fire than put himself through a gruelling season playing a 3rd line role on a Canadian team.
