They are the same goalie fringe backups good AHL guys. Vladar isn’t a huge upgrade of UPL and isn’t better than Levi.

Vladar is younger and has a lot more potential upside, Comrie is what he is by now. I know he's not better then Levi, I said bring him in to give Levi more time to develop.

Vladar isn't the goalie that's going to bridge a gap for the Sabres. Calgary played much better defensively than Buffalo, and Vladar still had below average numbers the past 2 seasons. You can say he played much better than his save% would indicate, but by that token so did Comrie before he got injured. Buffalo was a sieve defensively allowing a ridiculous number of odd man rushes and high danger chances, Vladar wouldn't succeed in that environment. That doesn't mean he wouldn't succeed somewhere else, I just don't think he's fast enough laterally or agile enough for the types of shots Buffalo gives up. They are allergic to protecting the slot and cross ice passes.

I'd be all over this. I'm not nearly as bullish as a lot of Flames fans on Vladar but if they could get anything for him and flexibility with a guy that can clear waivers and only has one year left on his deal I don't mind it at all. I think Buffalo gets a significantly higher ceiling in this deal, Calgary get flexibility

You could be right, but there aren't really a whole bunch of options out there though unless you want to pay a premium for one of the big names.

I believe Conroy said he wants a 2nd for him. I don't think he'll find anyone willing to pay that.

Absolutely not, the only way they're getting a second is in the situation above where they are giving up a lower round pick to increase the return from the other team. Straight up for Vladar they would be lucky to get in the top 100 of the draft.

It’s not both are bad goalies. If those two played better Flames&Sabres would have comfortably been a playoff team.

Completely out to lunch. Calgary had a lot of things go wrong last year but Vladar was not a bad goalie, he was very solid

I fear Conroy overplayed his hand and got stuck with Vladar for this season. A 3 headed goalie monster is a disaster waiting to happen, if you can recall the Hiller/Ramo/Ortio disaster from 2015 as an example. And more importantly, Wolf needs a spot in the NHL this year and should get at least 25 starts in big league. He has nothing left to prove in the minors

Vladar had a record of 14-6-5. If it wasnt for Sutters terrible overtime personnel decisions some of those OT losses could have went the other way. I also believe if Vladar was given more starts over a struggling Markstrom the Flames would have made the playoffs. It's not his fault they missed the playoffs.
