Pesce isn’t likely to waive for Calgary and no to this deal

What else are the flames adding to Backlund? Carolina have Staal that does the same thing Backlund does with a little less offensive, but is even better defensively. They don't have a ton of RD options.

it's not that i dislike Tanev, but this deal doesn't make much sense for the penguins unless they flipped Tanev for something else.

Tanev would be great for our blue line, I don't know why it wouldn't make sense.

Yes it does. They're taking Granlund back which is worth more than a 2nd on its own. This deal would be an absolute steal for PIT.

Like i said, i don't dislike Tanev, he's an incredibly strong defensive defenseman, and yeah it's a steal for the penguins for moving granlund at that value, but it still leaves the bottom six in a meh state imo.

The concept of adding EK would allow the bottom six to probably remain as is given the offensive upside EK brings.

To me though, Tanev doesn't bring a lot of offensive upside, so you're still leaving the bottom six in a more defensive position.

Also Petry and Tanev both played 2nd pair minutes last year, are one of them going to be okay playing 3rd pair minutes?

Still over the cap as well, would need to move Rutta and DeSmith which is fine obviously.

I'd just personally look to improve the bottom/middle six if EK doesn't happen (which I don't think will).

Lindholm would get more on this another team Sabers already has their top two centers locked down. I think Krebs would be a good pick up for them. So this would have to be a 3-way trade.

Taney deal looks good, lindholm looks good even the Boston deal is legit I think markstrom stays put and moving Backlund would be easy pesce on a expiring contract isn't needed but something would make sense

As far as the Sabres trades go:

I could see the Markstrom trade happen possibly, but under certain conditions:
1- the trade wouldn’t happen till mid-season at some point
2- don’t think the Sabres will move Olofsson until Quinn is healthy
3- Markstrom would need to be playing well again, as last season was a down year for him
4- the current trio of Sabres goalies would have to be struggling enough to think that Markstrom would be necessary to be in

So not a for sure Yes, but possible

I don’t see the Lindholm trade to Buffalo happening though. We are about to sign Dahlin & Power to HUGE contracts, & i think it’s highly unlikely that we’d bring in a high priced forward. Although the value of the deal is reasonable imo, so u should be able to find another team willing to do something similar

Bruins D core is still in good shape for the foreseeable future. It is the top 6 that is dicey. Trading one of the current top 6 without replacing it and adding another solid D player doesn't seem to make much sense. I only think they trade DeBrusk if they feel they can't re-sign him, and they'd either need to get back forward prospects or picks.

Tanev is an elite defensive RD. Something PIT doesn't have. Load him up with Pettersson for hardest deployment and give the other two lineups a chance to excel. This trade would be a huge win for Dubas.

Like I said, I don't have anything negative against Tanev, he is a strong shutdown guy, it just doesn't add scoring opportunity to the overall build of the team. Unless we think the bottom six as is will provide more scoring than last years bottom six...

Or unless we think they're going to completely change their style of play and look to put in 2 goals a night and park the bus which I don't see at all being their plan lol.

Krebs, and 2024 2nd for Lindholm with an extention, Buffalo should say yes if the extention was for 5 years at $7,100,000.
Just about the same as Cozens' and Thompson's contracts and one year sooner.

I'm not sure why they're arguing with you lol. You're exactly right. The trade is great for the Pens in a vacuum - but doesn't make much sense when looking at the current roster

Would it though? You're just getting a more expensive 3rd pair dman(no matter who you play there) and are still over the cap. And harming the forward group in the process.

It's a great value for the Pens - it just doesn't make much sense given the current roster.

Agreed it's not optimal given their current roster construction, but it is still a great value deal. At worst you're getting an elite defensive d-man on the bottom pairing that is overpaid on a 1-year deal. It gets out of a 2-year onerous contract of an unproductive player. It's a no-brainer to me.

Based on the value of the trade I agree it's great, and a no-brainier. I just think given the context it doesn't make much sense - to me at least. The bottom 6 is a clear issue. This trade makes that even worse while giving them an even more expensive 3rd pair dman(whether it's Tanev or Petry) - and would still be over the cap. I just feel like the trade is making the biggest weakness even worse, while adding a position they don't necessarily need. Maybe if they got some retention to be cap compliant that would change my opinion? Or if they're able to dump Rutta? Idk

Value aside, which is also a very good argument to be made, 2RD is a much more important position for the canes thanks 3C.

Doing this trade means we need to play tda or chatty top 4 minutes which doesn’t seem like a smart bet for a contender. In exchange for taking that risk on we push Staal to 4C which helps our depth but idk how much better that makes the team than just keep Staal at 3C and playing Drury or somebody else 10 min a night on the fourth line.

My point exactly. If the pens needed a 2RD then heck ya do this trade.
