Why would the Canes trade a great versatile depth defender on a league min deal for a forward who wouldn’t play? In a championship window that’s a terrible move.

I'd do that for Chatfield. He's the Canes 7 D right now

Voracek has an insured contract. Zero chance Arizona takes on Granlund who's cap hit is lower and salary payout is $5m this year.

Nah. He’s making like league minimum and is a much better defender than Deangelo

Okay? DeAngelo's going to be with Orlov probably. Orlov doesn't need another defensive partner, he needs help offensively. That's why they brought in DeAngelo... plus, Chatfield cannot QB a PP unit like TDA can.

AZ and Chicago both decline. Hawks aren't paying anything for DeSmith. AZ isn't taking 2 years of Granny for a 2nd.

Yeah, that’s why they’re gonna trade Pesce

        Slavin-Burns
        Orlov-TDA
        Skjei-Chatfield

        Burns
        TDA
        Chatfield...

That is exactly why they cannot trade Pesce. That RD is AWFUL. 39 year old Burns who could regress at any moment. DeAngelo whose a powerplay specialist, and Chatfield whose a 7th d/minor leaguer... no.

Bruh did you watch a single game last year? Pesce wasn’t even that good, especially in the playoffs, and Chatfield is most certainly not a minor leaguer. The canes and Pesce aren’t close on an extension. They’d be smart to get assets for him now.

Waddell basically admitted that he hasn't tried to talk to Pesce yet after getting Aho done. They were going to dive into it after. There's a reason he's still a Cane. Pesce and Skjei were arguably Carolina's most consistent pairing. Chatfield isn't even close to being as good as Pesce. Chatfield is a 7th D man at best. He probably should be in the AHL. He's awful positionally and relies on his speed WAY too much. Pesce is not only one of the best zone denial D men in the NHL, he's just cleanly better. I get maybe you don't like watching games, but Chatfield takes dumb penalties, he's awful positionally, he's not good offensively, he needs that exceptional speed to be average defensively.

The canes went 6-0 with Slavin out in January last season, in fact in the first game on the first pair with burns Chatfield was +4 with an assist while Pesce got waked for a couple goals

Carolina went 8-0 without Aho, so let's just trade all the good players out yeah? Stop it.... Chatfield got yanked around on a leash for the entire first half of the season.
