Low key? It's high key a terrible contract.

Devils don't want Fabbro and I'm on the fence about paying this much for Saros

Edit: I also just don't see Saros getting moved in the first place

Wished we offered him a 2-3 year deal for 6M or a 4-5 year deal for 4-5M

I feel like Saros fit so much the Devils compared to Hellebuyck and Gibson. Saros is not in his prime yet, he's young and on a fair contract for 2 more years. Hes a Top 5 goalie in my eyes and he fits perfectly in the Devils timeline instead of an aging Hellebuyck who is going to ask 8M+

Palat is a great player. When he's healthy he is a very consistent producer. Plus he always performs extra in playoffs. The AAV is spot on imo maybe the term is a tad lengthy

Every team has some iffy contracts, but Devils don't have many. But it looks like have some great ones long term Hischier, .Bratt, Hughes and Siengenthler. IMO Meier might be the worse long contact for the Devils.

NSH isn't likely to move Saros. That said, the value is here, but it would have to be a different piece other than Seamus. Not that he isn't good, but NSH's defense pipeline is already overflowing. NSH has another 4 guys who could all make the lineup in the next year or two on top of their current lineup (Moleyndk, Del Gaizo, Stastney, & Livingstone with Matier and Prokop not far behind).

While Seamus would standout, and be the puck moving D on the right side NSH wants they have wanted for a while, NSH is looking for forward prospects, especially those who can play center that they can build around.

I understand from conversations in the past Holtz is essentially untouchable, but NSH would need a piece they could build around in return for Saros. That said, if not Holtz, then I could see NSH asking for Mercer, Vanaeck, and pick in return for Saros. From NSH's perspective, the pick would have to be anothet 1st round pick, either in 24 or 25, but ideally 24. It's a high ask, but Trotz isn't keen on moving Saros unless it lands him someone the team can build around for the future because Saros is the only thing keeping NSH competitive right now.

If it is too much, I would totally get it. It just appears right now that Trotz is only willing to move Saros if another team is essentially willing to overpay for him. Trotz just said in a recent interview he has intentionally left gaps in the team in order to weaponize cap space and so I imagine he is waiting to snag someone from another team that they can't afford to keep.

Then why are Capfriendly, EliteProspects, the Devils NHL site, and University of Michigan's website all reporting that he is a defenseman?

That's cool and all, but after looking more into this, it doesn't appear to be a permanent switch. From what I've seen thus far, he made the switch on a whim for this game only. It's a fun story, but I'm going to continue to assume he is a defenseman with a lot of offensive upside, which lines up with what I said about him earlier.

It is mentioned in the article that the switch is not likely permanent. It becomes a permanent switch then come back next year when he has a full year playing center under his belt at that level. He even mentioned in the article that he hadn't played forward since he was 13 or 14. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

It will be permanent, it just isn't yet

I'm only half joking. He should be moved to center

Palat and Dougie are fairly often quoted as the contracts that didn't take a "buy in" discount. The argument usually is that the later really good contracts wouldn't have come without them on the team.

That is an unprovable rabbit hole I'm not going down here.

Palat was injured. He is a solid defense first player who can play on any of the lines when needed. Defense just doesn't show up on the stat sheets as well.

And as much as some people hate "intangible" talk, the first goal in game seven in the rangers series last season goes down stat wise as an assist for palat. In reality it was him wanting it more than two opponents in a game seven by himself and then unselfishly giving up a very high danger shot to give McLeod an even better one. There is value in a player like that.
