Description

CAR is currently flush with Dmen, so if they do end up keeping Pesce this year then Chatfield is going to find himself in the press box on a lot of nights. He's been very good in a 3rd pair role with the Canes, and I'd love to have him back in VAN for a 2nd go-round. If he works out he's still young enough that they could extend him as well. He could be a nice stop-gap partner for Hughes for the year, or keep him in a 3rd pair role and have Quinn drag Myers around the ice instead.

I sent Beauvillier (50% retained) to CAR in exchange, although they probably don't really need another winger. I just thought they're in win-now mode so they might want to add a player that could help them put up some points. The deal could be for a pick/prospect instead though.

After the trade I also signed Suter and Stalock to 1 year deals to finish the roster. Suter likely wants more AAV and term, but I'm not sure that offer is out there if he hasn't signed yet.

Yeah, I don’t think the Canes are going to consider that. Chatfield is worth more than his weight in gold, since he was able to elevate his game in the 7 or so games that he took Slavin’s spot due to Slavin’s injury. Plus, injuries happen, so it is worth a lot to have reliable extras. Coghlan can definitely be moved to the Canucks, but I don’t think Chatfield is available at the moment.

Besides, unless the Canes mow Skjei, I think DeAngelo actually has to work to earn his spot back over Chatfield. Should be interesting come training camp. As for the proposed trade, Beau would be a pretty good fit for the Canes system, but they need a 3C to push Staal down more than they need a winger.

Would be a good move but I dont have much faith in canucks management however i will say that this offseason has been the best managing moves ive probably ever seen for the canucks. So maybe good things are to come. Ive always liked Chatfield, juolevi, forsling, stecher, tanev, and they lost them for nothing

I mean he did look pretty good when he had to play his off-side on the first pairing for a few games this season

I actually believe Chatfield is a 7th D man at best and that his spot would have been better served going to Coghlan when the team was desperate for a PPQB before picking up Gostisbehere, but you know if you want to spew BS go for it.
